I don't really care about earnings at this point. They will be more important in a few years. Too many people think this company depends on earnings when the switchover from classical computers to quantum computers hasn't occurred yet. The computing singularity is still a few years down the road. Patience is still required for a while yet.

Invents a Novel, Low-Overhead Approach for Partial Quantum Error Correction
Represents significant step towards error correction, enabling faster, more accurate quantum applications with near term computers

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), a leader in the quantum computing industry, today announced a new breakthrough towards running large applications on near term quantum systems using partial error correction. The technique is an order of magnitude more efficient than the best error correction techniques known today.

In a recent paper, IonQ researchers describe a novel way to reduce noise in some of the most common and noisy operations used in quantum applications, called Clifford gates. The partial error correction scheme known as Clifford Noise Reduction (CliNR) uses a modest 3:1 qubit overhead, compared to other techniques that require tens, hundreds or even thousands of qubits for error correction.

“This cutting edge innovation on error correction led by IonQ’s research team offers the potential to supercharge the accuracy of near-term quantum computers, bringing us much closer to commercial advantage,” said Peter Chapman, President & CEO, IonQ. “The achievement represents a significant step forward in IonQ’s efforts to deliver on performance, scale, and enterprise-grade solutions to solve customers’ most complex problems with our quantum systems.”

Error correction–the practice of using many physical qubits to constitute a more accurate logical qubit–is an important milestone for quantum computing, but one that is believed to be several years away given the large overhead of qubits and quantum gate operations required to achieve it. Currently, IonQ’s high fidelity trapped-ion qubits enable error correction overhead ratios as low as 13:1, but even these ratios consume too many qubits to be practically useful today.

IonQ is also a leader in error mitigation, a technique that uses software to reduce errors in quantum applications. Error mitigation is commonly used by quantum computing companies, but has drawbacks at scale as it requires many data samples for implementation, increasing the time to solution.

The CliNR technique offers an exciting alternative to full error correction and error mitigation, balancing qubit count and time to solution. It employs an efficient overhead of three physical qubits for each error-corrected qubit and requires only a modest increase in quantum gates to calculate a more accurate solution. Results simulated using the CliNR technique demonstrated a substantial fidelity improvement when compared to applications run without error reduction techniques, and were suitable for applications using up to 85 qubits.

Partial error correction could be a critical driver in achieving exponentially deeper quantum circuits to run increasingly complex algorithms for customers. IonQ plans to begin offering partial error correction as a feature on its forthcoming IonQ Tempo system generation.

The invention of the CliNR technique is the latest in a series of technical and applications advances pioneered by IonQ’s world-class research team. In March, IonQ and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) announced initial results from its study of initial results of their work to use quantum computers to optimize flight gate assignments at busy airports. In June, IonQ launched an accelerated technical roadmap focused on delivering quantum systems with superior performance, scalability, and enterprise readiness.

Agreed. And no matter their revenue, which is largely irrelevant at this stage (unless you're a shortie), the price explosion comes at AQ64, which is only about a year away. Just a waiting game with this company. I theorize that they have already accomplished a lot of tech advancements and roll them out at opportune times. They have consistently been ahead of schedule. They may have already achieved AQ64. Wouldn't shock me.

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 2024--IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), a leader in the quantum computing industry, announced today that it has won a contract through a competitive solicitation with the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) to design a first-of-its-kind, networked quantum computing system for the Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Intelligence Community. The first phase of the project – awarded at $5.7 million – will focus on the design phase of the quantum system. Future phases of the project, which have yet to be awarded, include the construction, delivery, and maintenance of these systems. Through this project, ARLIS will conduct hands-on research into the cybersecurity of multi-party quantum computation, including blind quantum computing protocols – a process where quantum computers remain ‘blind’ to what information is being processed through them. This effort is funded by an award from the Secretary of the Air Force Concepts, Development, and Management Office.

ARLIS is the Department of Defense’s principal university-affiliated research center (UARC) for intelligence and security, and this contract extends the reach of IonQ technology to yet another U.S. federal agency. The federal government is focused on shaping the U.S. into an internationally recognized leader in quantum computing. Agencies like the U.S. Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) have previously announced deals with IonQ to use the company’s systems for quantum networking research and application development.

“With the rapid advancement of technologies like quantum and AI, we as a nation must maintain our leadership position in these developing fields while also hardening our security tools against global actors like China and Russia,” said Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.). “I am pleased to have secured $40M to support this project to bring IonQ’s quantum systems to the ARLIS facility, and it’s exciting to see the first phase of this project underway, which will guide the DoD’s strategy for securing the quantum space.”

Earlier this year, the Department of Energy funded research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to explore how quantum technology can modernize the power grid. In 2023, IonQ announced a $25.5 million deal with the U.S. Air Force Research Lab to deploy two barium-based trapped ion quantum computing systems for quantum networking research and application development. Welcome to the club. Share price will likely be up and down for the next 12-18 months as this company achieves quantum dominance and establishes itself in various industries. Shorts will likely have their way with the stock until then. When IonQ announces their AQ64-capable model, then it's on. They've said they hope to achieve this in 2025, and historically have been achieving things ahead of schedule, which is a breath of fresh air.

Accumulate the lows and hold your shares for abut 10 years and you will be very happy. Don't be the guy who sold his Microsoft shares in the early '90s, or his Apple shares in like 2010.

I'm an investor in IonQ. I have to regrettably acknowledge to all holders and potential investors, do not believe nonsense. IonQ 'trapped ion' platform is NOT currently delivering scalability. We are currently only scaling 36 logical qubits. Other QC technology platforms are already scaling 48 logical qubits, so for certain contributors to claim here IonQ 'game over' in QC space, is simply misleading. Both founders of IonQ have left the company (presumably) to focus on further research, but who knows. I'm an honest contributor here. I'm upside-down on this stock, and I'm not currently optimistic about longterm holding. Invest with caution. I'm probably going to lose a lot on this one....

'Trapped ion' tech (as it is right now) is not going to get us Quantum Supremacy, and perhaps not even Quantum advantage. 'Trapped ion' tech is only scaling 36 qubits, as compared to 'neutral atom' tech scaling at 6100 qubits (48 logical qubits). We are losing this race right now to 'neutral atom' tech. All the rah rah rah hype is misleading. Yes, IonQ has acquired some contracts here and there, but it is not to level worth shouting about. SP now under $8 PS.....and likely going below the all-time low within next couple of weeks. Nothing on the horizon to cause upswing momentum....
Some on this board have pumped out a lot savvy, well-written notes, but when you did a little deeper, 'game over' comments are sadly misleading....
