I'm not so sure about that. I'm not disrespecting ISRG as they paved the way for Robotic Surgery and have my respect. But it's not 2008 and Titan seems to be on track for launch with the SPORT system in 2015 (they have hit every milestone on a timely basis). Competition is inevitable. 1 1/2 years and counting.
but that one will double before this one does
Intuitive Surgical Inc. is really a flim flam!!!
My opinion on Titan is that it will probably be a long time before they can become a viable threat to ISI. Too many patents and too far ahead for competitors to make a wave. It would be like UFC vs BAMMA.
Please excuse my redneck Mixed Martial Arts reference.
short is a better word
Oh yeah ..it was close..this will be mid 400s soon enough..davinci is a good product..will grow and get better as more surgeons get used to it
Support was a bit higher than I thought. But,I wasn't to far off. Your 374's look better now.

Wow. I thought 425 was cheap! This is awesome!
This too shall pass. FDA stuff on conference call caused bigger drop..added a few 374
That fugly huh?.. I think 200 day holds and bounces a bit when company does a buyback..lol
Agree, very bullish on the robotic movement!
There are complication rates involved with every modality for surgery. Robotic complication rates are far lower than in open procedures or laparoscopic procedures for that matter. So the question is, why are these horror stories not making the news???
Answer: Because there is no multi-million dollar lawsuit to slap on the surgeon. It's MUCH easier to go after the high profile Industry Giant, 20 billion dollar, $500+ per share company if you're looking for a settlement. IMO
ISRG will soar to new heights in 2013 IMO. GLTA
Very disturbing pice on ISRG on Rock Center on last Friday night documenting the Da Vinci and the risks and cases in which people were actually harmed by the robot.
Big move ah :)
So true, but this one will always be the "one that got away." Literally 20 minutes after I sold, I would have had more than a ten bagger (1150%). Still being new to options, it is shocking to me how quickly they can move. That was more of a parabolic move than I've ever seen any stock make, going up over 1,000% in the first half hour. I had dreams about this trade last night...gotta put it behind me, and I will, but it's tough to swallow.
Yeah, that's trading in a nutshell, "coulda woulda shoulda "
I could have had a 20 bagger from my .80 entry yesterday! Those puts closed at $16.50. I made some nice coin here, but DAMN!!! I need to have a little more patience with these. That would have been the trade of my career. Oh well.
Well, I remember when Citron put out that negative article out back in December and didn't buy any puts, and I would have had a ten bagger. Really should have bought puts back on March 4th when it broke key support. Went ahead and did it this time, but will probably be selling them right at open if it gaps down. It would be nice to see it gap under today's low!
yeah, always play the price action if your a trader. Long term fundamental valuation is a different story!
All the same, I bought some puts and am up about 50% right now. Hoping for a nice gap down in the morning! Weeeeeeeeeee!
Article causing the big move today:
http://www.acog.org/About_ACOG/News_Room/News_Releases/2013/Statement_on_Robotic_Surgery
my take:
"without reading the study, the lower outcomes could be simply from the learning curve of the new technology, and the study doesnt address the benefits that the experience in using the robots will have on outcomes for all other surgeries using the technology. Based on the article I also have no clue what % usage is for routine historectimies so there is no real way to tell how much this will affect the company. I think its impossible for anybody to be able to evaluate the effect on the company based on that article alone, other than the fact that it was a neg news article."
Intuitive Surgical (ISRG -3.2%) slips after a cautious mention on Twitter by Citron Research, saying hospitals are beginning to question the value of robotic surgery. The tweet links to an article in the Monterey Herald that infers ISRG's da Vinci system is nothing more than "razzle-dazzle marketing," and questions whether the $2m price tag is justified
"The adverse event reports sent to the FDA outline serious complications, including those involving gynecological surgeries that make up about half of the procedures involving Intuitive’s robotic system. They include damage to ureters and bowels as well as instances when instruments broke off from the robot and fell into patients. Reports also cited burns to various organs or vessels, most repaired during the surgery itself. "
ONly scalping: great 7k+ gain in one minute yesterday

Reading up on laproscopic type procedures (I probably need to have kidney surgery).
Long story short, wikipedia tells me that ISRG (Intuitive Surgical) is the only maker of robotic equipment for use in laproscopic procedure and thus may be a de facto monopoly. Thoughts?

Da Vinci Robot May Cause Serious Complications for Patients Receiving Hysterectomies and Other Procedures, Reports Surgical News
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — The da Vinci Surgical System, a robotic device used across the country to perform hysterectomies on patients, has come under recent criticism from both medical professionals and insurance companies.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has been firmly opposed to the robot for the potential hazards it presents to patients. Also, one insurance company, Kaiser Insurance, has also written about concerns related to the use of robotic devices.
The criticism is primarily rooted in evidence that the robot has caused complications for a number of individuals, including cuff dehiscence and bladder injuries. One of the da Vinci Surgical System’s critics has been Dr. Susan K. Mueller, a board-certified practicing physician who was named the Top Surgeon in America in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2007 by the Consumers’ ResearchCouncil of America. Dr. Mueller has an in-depth article outlining the potential dangers of robotic surgery for hysterectomies. She also expresses concerns that the maker of the da Vinci Surgical System has engaged in paid online marketing tactics to ensure that negative comments about the robot do not appear at the top of users’ search results.
These concerns have not gone unnoticed in the legal community, and increasing numbers of attorneys are seeking individuals who have experienced complications. They are particularly interested in speaking with people who have undergone prostatectomies, hysterectomies, cardiac surgeries and prostate, kidney, esophagealor pancreatic cancer procedures.
“There are over 600,000 hysterectomies alone performed each year, and the potential number of cases is staggering,” said Conn. “There are strict deadlines for filing claims against the manufacturer of this robotic device. This is the reason we are urging people who have been affected to come forward immediately to learn about their legal options.”
Legal representatives for the plaintiffs of these cases originally sought to have them centralized to California, where Intuitive Surgical, the maker of the DaVinci Robot, is headquartered. However, on August 3, 2012 the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation rejected a request to move the da Vinci Surgical System product liability lawsuits from various parts of the country to the single location.
Those who wish to explore their options for seeking compensation after complications resulting from the da Vinci Surgical System should visit http://www.davincirobotcase.com/ to request an information packet about the da Vinci Robot.
4:18 PM Intuitive Surgical (ISRG): Q3 EPS of $4.46, beats by $0.94 may not compare to $3.50 estimates. Revenue of $538M (+24% Y/Y), beats by $3M

Lots of recommendations on this one over the month of April/05. Looks like a good longterm growth stock to stick into your portfolio as it seems that it is just starting to make inroads to the medical community.
