@vegas ... I noticed that.
Both the Calls and Puts were closed ..
What reason would somebody have for closing both positions?
Thanks vegas.
Rokky57, Open interest went down by 1500 contracts, therefore they closed them.
Gamco Barcelona will be an opportune time for Oppo and Lenovo to license with IDCC. After all they will all be in the same place. No extra travel required.
Oppo and Lenovo are only fooling themselves as to when they must license.
MWC Barcelona 2023 will be a four-day event that will commence on Monday, February 27, 2023, and continue through Thursday, March 2, 2023. The event will be hosted at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.
InterDigital, Lenovo and Oppo will be in attendance for the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona next week.

“Is he betting on a downturn of IDCC price because he's paying a lot more for the Puts than the Calls?”
The person buying the puts and selling the calls is betting on a down turn in the stock price and evidently responsible for most of the short interest.
The person selling the puts and buying the calls wants the price to go up and could be trying to force a short squeeze the way I’m looking at it.
Who’s got the deeper pockets?
If the person was buying both the calls and the puts he’d be hoping for some volatility to try and make money. Not a very good way to do it since your already losing time premium as soon as you buy an option. Plus you have the bid/ask spread to deal with and would need a large buyer of options to get out of your position.
Looks like a couple players with large egos doing this.
Rokky57, They bot the calls and sold the puts. It could be another 150,000 synthetic shares but you can not tell until you see the open interest on Monday. Yes I have a very large position that I would like to make money on by lending it. I want to encourage someone to short it by lending the shares. I can call them in or sell them anytime. The higher the short interest the better as I will then call them back unless the lend rate is 6% or more. I believe with the Lenovo, Vivo and Oppo news things will go my way.
@vegas options .. What are your thoughts on this/these player(s) that keeps buying the same amount of Calls and Puts of the March 80 Strike..1500 of each today.
Is he betting on a downturn of IDCC price because he's paying a lot more for the Puts than the Calls?
You also posted that you want to lend 100,000 of your shares..is that just to make some money on the interest?
Aren't you "long" IDCC and does it concern you, if you are, that the shares you loan out can be used to "short" IDCC..Is that a possibility?
Thanks for posting.
The simple math…29.67 million shares outstanding….then…
88.94% owned by insiders and institutions…then…
9.2% taken out by the auction = @ 552,000 shares left. Obviously, the simple math does not mean institutions didn’t sell their shares on the auction, which could lead to more shares available…. but there is very limited supply out there.
Good ole “IMMC” the forefather of IDCC. Live long and prosper.
My3sons87 - It's my understanding that 1st quarter's per share financials are calculated using the average of the number of outstanding shares at the beginning of the period and the number of outstanding shares at the end of the period. So per share amounts from the Dutch Auction will effect both 1st and 2nd quarter reports.
You asked: Will the 1st qtr earnings be measured against the reduced shares remaining after the Dutch auction? If so the per share earnings would be higher as there are less shares.
teecee we have owned this stock long enough for the baby to be born an aarp card carrying senior citizen. Hopefully, upon birth it will come with a golden spoon for the share holders.
Will the 1st qtr earnings be measured against the reduced shares remaining after the Dutch auction? If so the per share earnings would be higher as there are less shares.
cat....there are so many moving parts here right now that im having trouble keeping track....but we know the shorts have a big ally....and he;s not afraid to put his rep on the line...i think he winds up with tire tracks all across his back....but right now its happening in front of our eyes...i must admit...i used to own 20x the shares i own now.....but im having more fun with this stock than i ever had....it feels like the 25 year baby is about to be delivered!!!
Teecee,
Again. anyone shorting this stock with the positive fundamentals it has is just a FOOL!
IMHO - Tomcat
upon further analysis ....that was Tuesdays trade of the 85 puts....everything else stands...26 myn shares....and delivery into the variety of options and tender needs....is becoming a problem....the short interest report as of 2/15....will be wery wery interesting!!!!
glen....there are no shares traded today...less than 100k and the stock is up almost 2 points....versus all those options changing hands....something has to give and its the price of the stock
you can if you want them to...you have to sign up....but they cant do it automatically
Now we have tossed some Chum in the water, expect a big fish

tomcat, you can lend in retirement accounts or personal accounts as long as there is no margin against the accounts.
that is the opening rate until American Transfer and short interest are known.
Tee & Vegas,
All of my IDCC shares are in retirement accounts. I have owned them for years. Recently, I picked up 400 more shares during the recent plunge & those are in my taxable Interactive Broker account, on their "lend lease" program.
I will be getting shorty interest from the 400 shares, as they are designated as being in a margin account.
Now my question:
Are non-margin shares in retirement accounts lent out to shorties?
I hope not!!
Tomcat
that doesnt sound very high..what is regular rate... 1.5%?
tnyellowtomcat, Because B of A told them to sell it short.
teecee56, I called because I am looking to lend 100K of shares. I am not interested until it gets over 6%.
so you have to pay 1.5% in order to borrow the stock....what would be a regular rate?
With all the thousands of stocks out there, WHY would anyone want to short IDCC?
Tomcat
Just a new rate only 1 1/2 %
vegas....i like that....what type of rate are they assigning to the borrow?

Off the wall idea. I tried to get this BOA analyst canned, I did not have enough leverage on my own. I think if we could get enough shares/cash committed together as a group we might be able to get it done. Anybody interested?
big cat...i hear ya ...been with with ya....i think its about time we delivered this baby .to somebody who can care for it and bring out its true potential......think of how lonely SHERWIN must have felt on that beach in 1974....now thats some vision...he was only looking to trade stock from his beach blanket...just goes to show you how foolish the true geniuses are!!!

Well they need to get Lenovo licensed. Also it looks as though over 1.2 million shares traded around today.
Cat: yes to Q filling the ranks:
Chen - IDCC Pres. and CEO, 25 years at Q, Legal - oversaw intellectual property portfolio.
Pankas- IDCC EVP Communications and Public Policy 25 years at Q research, 3,4,5G
Aberle - IDCC Board member, 18 years at Q, including 4 years as President.
Heavy weight with Q ties,
Teecee,
I think B of A was bearish, as shorts in IDCC have been coddled and protected for so many years and they just thought "past is prologue" when it comes to IDCC. Well, things change and there are a lot of QCOM managers at IDCC now and they know how to get licenses signed and monies collected!
Names taken and A$$es kicked!
IMHO - Tomcat
dueling analysts....fighting it out in the middle of the street...jeffries and boa/merrill are the two most high profile analysts idc has ever attracted....and they are on opposite sides...whoulda thunk....jeffries has always been known for their sharp elbows...merrill not so much....especially when it comes to analysts
This market STINKS, yet it is BORING!
Tomcat
vegas....im wondering if some of this option stuff is due to the convertibles....i saw that idcc mentioned they would look to buy the converts alongside the stock
teecee56, good news in that it means there are only 26.92M shares left.
point of interest....largest volume day leading up to tender was 1.17 myn on 2/14...closing price 72.94...live and learn.....i must say...ive witnessed stuff i never saw before.....how many companies have bought back 10% of their stock in one shot?
teecee56, the stock price went up 22% Sept, 30 to Dec.30. Funds have to reduce to keep the percentage the same.

Moderators |
The principle objective of the iHub message boards is to maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio while encouraging the exchange of all points of view. Moderators are an important part of making our message boards beneficial to all participants and readers. Moderating a stock-specific board, particularly those which are controversial due to many divergent perspectives or newsworthy events, can be a challenging and time consuming role. The time and effort expended by our Members who volunteer their time to fulfill this valuable role is greatly appreciated and our Moderators should be treated with the respect they deserve for donating their time and efforts to the collective benefit of our community. Company-specific boards are the lifeblood of iHub. The Moderators' role is simple to define for company-specific boards:
To promote the civil exchange of on-topic dialog that complies with the Investors Hub Terms of Service. |
It is no accident that neither the above definition nor the Terms of Service makes mention of investment sentiment, shareholder interests, or considerations such as "the good of the company." That is because the TOS are blind to investment sentiment. In order to be a successful Moderator and conduct a board within the scope of iHub's TOS, it is critical that Moderators distinguish their role and privileges as Moderator from their role and privileges as a posting Member. That is often easier said than done, particularly on active boards with both the typical and atypical controversy.
If a post does not fit into any of these categories the post must not be removed.
Some posts fall into a "gray" area and are borderline depending upon the way they are read. As inclusion is favored over exclusion, please err or the side of not removing posts if they are not clear violations. Please use the "Report TOS Violation" button at the bottom of the post with your comments if the post is not egregious in nature and Site Admins will review the message.
Bottom line: Please use your best judgment in removing posts based on the above guidelines and let us know if you have any questions or need any help. And keep in mind that post removal and non-removal have to be given the same emphasis. It is not permissible, for example, to remove a post that calls someone a "pumper" while not also removing a post that calls someone a "basher". Investor sentiment, including your own, can NOT be part of the removal/non-removal decision.
