A message for those shorts still hanging on: don't forget to turn off your lights on your way out.
This price action is damn exciting
Reminds me of the orig apple license
Maki g me nervous as hell tho
badgerkid, because the 2027 notes do not convert for 2 years or more, I would say NO
Vegas, any chance that some of the short shares are tied to the notes? Couldn't a fund employ such a strategy - a convertible hedge? The current stock price has moved into a territory where all naked shorts are now upside down (unless they're new shorts as of today). Depending on their risk tolerance, I would guess that many are beginning to sweat just a bit more. I suspect we are very close to a tipping point. I'm just wondering if the end game is indeed the conversion and then a move to take the company private. Or it may simply be a move to free up all of the money for better return options currently available.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/convertible-hedge.asp
badgerkid, Example 2027 notes if held to conversion in 2027 convert at $69/share as the share cost decreases by the dividend. The notes are hedged to $125 but the warrants are not. The notes convert after June, 2025 at $72.20. I worry about the warrants which could explain the hurry in the buyback. If the notes are converted, the note liability goes away. If the hedge maxes out the company could receive an additional $300+M. The 2024 notes convert in June 2024. I think the only hope there is whatever is left of the hedge.
this is i think either the 3rd or 4th convertible bond that idc has issued...there has never been an exercise of the convertibles previously....not even at the base convertible rate...much less the hedged out rate......maturity is 15months from now
Vegas, please give us your take on the pros and cons of these convertible notes.

Now there are major hurdles ahead. All time high $102.30 from Feb. 2017. Groups of warrants issued by company at $106.49 and $109.37. I also think that if the stock price stays above $103 for 20 days the bonds can be converted after a certain date. I am writing this from memory so it should be close...
A mea culpa from me as I am 1 day late on the new 52 week high...
Bingoreeno!
99 shares just traded at $98.71 . Still counts in my book.

The Satellite-Based 5G Game May Get a Surprising New Player
Roger Cheng
Defense contractor Lockheed Martin is the latest company looking to get into the burgeoning area of satellite-based internet service.
Earlier this week, the company showed off a demo of its “Advanced 5G Non-Terrestrial Network Satellite Base Station,” which it calls 5G.MIL. It said it plans to launch the 5G.MIL payload to orbit next year.
Lockheed Martin is the latest player to invest in utilizing satellites to offer 5G cellular coverage. But unlike companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, and SpaceX, the 5G.MIL system is designed to bring secure 5G communications to the military.
The the other difference is the base station will include all of the equipment, from the radio to the radio access network and core, in order to run by itself, vs. other systems that rely on a lot of the other networking functions to still happen on the ground. This allows the setup to bypass ground-based networks completely, making it more secure and reducing any potential lag time.
The ultimate goal, however, remains the same as the consumer options: to provide broader coverage all over the world and eliminating dead spots found in ground-based networks, which are limited by where towers and cell sites are located.
“5G from space will enable Joint All-Domain Command and Control operations especially in austere environments, remote locations and contested areas,” said Joe Rickers, Lockheed Martin’s vice president for connectivity, transport and access. “Our Satellite Base Station is real, operational hardware and we’re excited for the next step — integrating this powerful payload into our self-funded Tactical Satellite which we’ll launch next year.”

Forest did say to tell all that he will share the shrimp company money with IDCC to share with all of us.
I am getting to old for this.
I will spend the weekend “conjuring” up positive thoughts to assist the price starting Monday.
Forest Gump said he went home to Jennie.
My3, it appears that your second thought is correct. It looks like the buyer/buyers took the afternoon off - I'm guessing a happy hour special around the corner. All still looks good for more upward action into the coming weeks and there's no evidence of any short covering panic as of yet (which could prove to be great for price action going forward). IDCC is still underpriced at its current level which is supported by analysts price targets in excess of $110.00.
Well Forest Gimp ran the wrong way today. Or he just stopped because he was tired.
No short squeeze today. Sorry that I was “premature”! I do believe that we will see higher highs before the end of the year. One new licensee and it will be …to the moon Alice!!!
No short squeeze today. Sorry that I was “premature”! I do believe that we will see higher highs before the end of the year. One new licensee and it will be …to the moon Alice!!!
Can we see a little short squeeze today that will push over $100.?!
Still here and still very long after more years than I care to mention!
Good luck to all!!!
glen...point and figure were the original charts....one of the guys i learned from had handmade 10yr long p&f chart of the 30 yr treasury....he would almost comically unfurl the chart across 4 desktops....in the hour before money supply would come out....which in those days was 4 oclock on a friday afternoon....mercifully they later moved money supply reporting to thursdays!!!
Run Forest Gump run. We have your back and flanks. Run run run and don’t look back. If you do hopefully all we will see are smoked shorts. At least I hope so.
Monterey, you're in good company on this board. Here's hoping that you can make the new high announcement tomorrow.
Badger
My bad...fast typing is not my friend either along with old age. Thanks.
Monterey, that's $96.89, not $98.69. No new 52 week high yet. Dyslexia is not your friend. Or is that dyxlesia? But Vegas may be right, a new 52 week high is likely if this is partly due to a short squeeze.
I'm not in the prediction business but Point & Figure charts have been around for a long time. We need a few more brokerage houses to initiate coverage.
Gamco, is $135.00 for IDCC your near term prediction? The increases have been orderly and somewhat consistent. It certainly leaves me guessing as to the actual underlying driving force. Short covering? Interdigital buying back more shares? New long positions being created? News of a new contract that leaked to a fund?
Curious minds want to know. Up is certainly more fun than down.
the buyers have definitely found some supply at these prices....question is....are the buyers new to idcc....or is it the shorts being dragged kicking and screaming!!!
One half hour of trading, volume 165k. EOM
Nothing wrong with that!!!
I have never found "Health" in the so called "Healthy Correction!!"
Tomcat
it seems that the price objective moves higher....everytime we make another point without a reversal occurring
Point & Figure chart 11/15/23 implies $135
https://stockcharts.com/freecharts/pnf.php?c=idcc,p
Oreenos is a slow process....this is more like goose shit flowing through a trombone....fast and furious!!!4
Teecee56 - Situations like this tend to sneak up on a person when no one is shouting out the "O'reeno's" as they happen!
Glen ..they've found prices where shares are trading freely...ironically ...withing spitting distance of this years highs...it's the line of scrimmage now...everybody take a deep breath....and if you're into the fight....buckle up your chinstrap......and let's rock n roll!!...
Volume after the close 180k @ $94.92 is NOT business as usual in IDCC land... Just saying.
Nope...not at this point....they squeezed them a "little bit"...now it seems like the market has become more balanced between supply and demand...stay tuned...I'm really excited about what's coming next!!!
Does this still look like a short squeeze. Looks like they worked hard to keep it under $95.00 today. The ask would often be below the current price.
New Report Highlights How 5G-Advanced Features Can Address the Enterprise Opportunity
Company Release - 11/15/2023
Report from ABI Research, sponsored by InterDigital, also warns that 5G is not “finished” and has yet to achieve its full potential
WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 15, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The features and functionality of 5G-Advanced means the technology is primed for enterprise—but only if mobile operators can consider its applications and turn use cases into practical solutions. This is according to a new report commissioned by InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC), a mobile and video technology research and development company, and written by market research firm ABI Research, which highlights why this latest network generation has not yet realized its potential in unlocking new business opportunities.
Rapid adoption of 5G over the past three years makes it the most quickly adopted cellular generation to date. Efforts in the past four years (2018-2022) have focused on the foundational development of 5G, laying the groundwork for the new cellular generation and enhancing network capacity, speed, and latency. Yet operators have struggled to tap into the enterprise market and to realise the IMT-2020 vision for 5G, which is oriented beyond mobile broadband.
The new report, The State of 5G-Advanced: Empowering New Verticals and Industries, outlines the development of 5G-Advanced and its new features that will see enhancements to existing 5G technology over the next three years (2023-2026). These will be dedicated to the transformational phase of 5G, or 5G-Advanced, and will improve existing specifications, while also introducing new features that aim to optimize network operations and pave the way for innovative enterprise use cases and business models that have not been feasible with earlier generations. These features include:
Extended Reality (XR), including AR and VR applications, will be enhanced by 5G Advanced’s promise to enable networks to better identify diverse applications and content, and thus discern XR applications and their specific latency and bandwidth requirements. This new feature adds the flexibility of addressing different requirements for myriad applications, like lower latency for multi-user interactions, edge computing, or streaming applications or higher bandwidth for immersive media.
Sidelink Positioning, a precise positioning technology that facilitates direct communication between devices, and will allow smartphones, wearables, and other gadgets to connect and interact with vehicles. It can also enhance accuracy, energy efficiency, and mapping, particularly for Simultaneous Location and Mapping (SLAM) applications and is vital for precision-intensive tasks like robotics, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) control, and drone oversight.
RedCap, or “reduced capacity”, will broaden 5G’s reach to power-limited devices such as smartwatches, Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) equipment, surveillance cameras, and a variety of IoT devices, catering to both the business and consumer sectors.
Passive or ambient IoT, which aims to connect sensors and devices to cellular networks without a power source and that could dramatically increase the number of cellular IoT devices and become far more appealing to several enterprise verticals.
“The collective research and innovation efforts of the entire industry have laid an important foundation in 5G, but we must recognise that it’s not ‘finished’ and has yet to achieve its full potential,” said Milind Kulkarni, VP and Head of Wireless Labs, InterDigital. “New features will be standardized in 5G Advanced and 6G that significantly improve capabilities for operators but importantly, open new opportunities in enterprise verticals.”
Alongside the enterprise opportunity, the report also reveals that 5G-Advanced will be critical for the monetisation of 5G, as well as for improving the energy efficiency of, and integrating automation into, 5G networks.
According to the report, 5G-Advanced will deliver the following features and improvements:
New use cases which unlock new business opportunities, including extended reality (XR), more sophisticated IoT deployments, and applications that unlock new use cases that were not feasible with foundational 5G or prior generations.
More efficient and sustainable networks, including developing and commercializing more energy-efficient equipment that enable mobile operators to run greener networks.
Integration of AI and machine learning, specifically in areas of network management, radio intelligence, predictive maintenance, and enhanced user experiences, which will help pave the way for 6G and fully automated networks.
Improved coverage and capacity, through the introduction of non-terrestrial type communications, mainly satellite, which increase coverage in remote and rural areas and offer better uplink capabilities to enhance coverage, alongside advanced massive MIMO for increased capacity.
Despite new functionality introduced in 5G-Advanced, the report also warns that the “build it and they will come” philosophy on which operators have traditionally relied will not be successful in the enterprise domain unless they can fully understand and embrace the long tail of enterprise requirements and pain points. 5G-Advanced’s new functionality can help operators address the enterprise domain, but an additional step is necessary for success: understanding how to deploy and how to market these capabilities to enterprise verticals.
“InterDigital has long made significant contributions to wireless development efforts in 3GPP, ETSI, and 6G forums like the Next G Alliance, and will continue to develop technologies that will form the bedrock of new standards that usher in these new features,” InterDigital CTO Rajesh Pankaj added. “We believe the operators will capitalize on these capabilities and drive new applications and use cases that will help us all collectively meet the ambitions set out in IMT-2020 to support the development of other industry sectors.”
The biggest priority for 5G-Advanced is to monetize existing 5G networks beyond the consumer domain and start creating large-scale opportunities in the enterprise space. Operators that have already deployed 5G nationwide are well positioned to provide advanced enterprise functionality using their existing networks, translating into a faster Return on Investment (ROI), new revenue streams, and the opportunity to accelerate their public 5G network rollouts further.

tnyellowtomcat, In theory yes, but most people do not have the money. If sold to the market maker then he will take it. Deep in the money options will usually be exercised. At the money usually not. Even though they may take them they will sell in the following week. If you have (100) 90 calls for Friday it costs you $900,000 on exercising. It is easier to sell them for your potential profit. I believe that if this is a short squeeze we will see a new 52 week high this week. If someone sells naked calls they will end up short.
I HOPE you are not short!!
Tomcat
Vegas,
For covered writes. if the writer of the call option fails to buy it back in before the exercise date, then isn't the underlying stock called away from him by the option holder? If a naked write, then doesn't the calling process cause the writer to be short stock?
Bottom line, if someone is long a call option and exercises same, doesn't he always get shares?
Thanks - Tomcat
Nah ...not my style...I'm a simple man...recently discovered Clyde Mays Alabama style whiskey...I call it the Willie Mays whiskey!!!...cheers to all my idc buds !!!!
Pappy Van Winkle!
Oh krap ..96 in ah....now I have to really start drinking!!
I am thinking this is not bad. Thoughts?

Moderators |
The principle objective of the iHub message boards is to maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio while encouraging the exchange of all points of view. Moderators are an important part of making our message boards beneficial to all participants and readers. Moderating a stock-specific board, particularly those which are controversial due to many divergent perspectives or newsworthy events, can be a challenging and time consuming role. The time and effort expended by our Members who volunteer their time to fulfill this valuable role is greatly appreciated and our Moderators should be treated with the respect they deserve for donating their time and efforts to the collective benefit of our community. Company-specific boards are the lifeblood of iHub. The Moderators' role is simple to define for company-specific boards:
To promote the civil exchange of on-topic dialog that complies with the Investors Hub Terms of Service. |
It is no accident that neither the above definition nor the Terms of Service makes mention of investment sentiment, shareholder interests, or considerations such as "the good of the company." That is because the TOS are blind to investment sentiment. In order to be a successful Moderator and conduct a board within the scope of iHub's TOS, it is critical that Moderators distinguish their role and privileges as Moderator from their role and privileges as a posting Member. That is often easier said than done, particularly on active boards with both the typical and atypical controversy.
If a post does not fit into any of these categories the post must not be removed.
Some posts fall into a "gray" area and are borderline depending upon the way they are read. As inclusion is favored over exclusion, please err or the side of not removing posts if they are not clear violations. Please use the "Report TOS Violation" button at the bottom of the post with your comments if the post is not egregious in nature and Site Admins will review the message.
Bottom line: Please use your best judgment in removing posts based on the above guidelines and let us know if you have any questions or need any help. And keep in mind that post removal and non-removal have to be given the same emphasis. It is not permissible, for example, to remove a post that calls someone a "pumper" while not also removing a post that calls someone a "basher". Investor sentiment, including your own, can NOT be part of the removal/non-removal decision.
