It probably does. For all practical purposes Quimonda self destructed and is history and that's Infineon positive. So far as I know Infineon has completely written their 77% stake in the spinoff down. They may have some contingent liabilities but I don't expect much on that score. Feel free to comment further.

Infineon Technologies AG today announced that it has applied to voluntarily delist its American Depositary Shares (“ADSs”) from the New York Stock Exchange (“NYSE”). The Company expects that the delisting will take effect on April 24, 2009, and that as of that date, the ADSs will no longer be traded on the NYSE. Infineon intends to file for deregistration and termination of its reporting obligations under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (the “Exchange Act”) as soon as possible following the first anniversary of the delisting.

The Frankfurt Stock Exchange represents Infineon’s principal trading market, with trading on the NYSE accounting for a relatively low percentage of trading of its ADSs and ordinary shares on a worldwide basis. IBM Technology Alliance Announces Availability of Advanced 28-Nanometer, Low-Power Semiconductor Technology

In a move that signals a firm and ongoing commitment to advanced semiconductor technology leadership, IBM (NYSE: IBM), Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX), Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd., and STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) have defined and are jointly developing a 28-nanometer (nm), high-k metal gate (HKMG), low-power bulk complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process technology.

The low-power, 28nm technology platform can provide power-performance and time-to-market advantages for producers of a broad range of power-sensitive mobile and consumer electronics applications, including the fast-growing mobile Internet device market segment. The favorable leakage characteristics of the HKMG technology result in optimized battery life for the next generation of mobile products.

This announcement represents an extension of existing joint development agreements, and further progression in the technology offerings of the alliance partners, building on the success of earlier joint development work in 32nm HKMG technology.

A 28nm low-power technology evaluation kit was previously made available in December 2008 to early access clients, followed by release in March 2009 of an evaluation kit for open access to the general marketplace. Early risk production is anticipated in the second half of 2010.

"We believe government-backed debt financing is the most likely path," the broker said, as Infineon is often the sole source of chips for automakers. It also believes Infineon will remain a supplier to the next-generation iPhone.

Neubiberg (aktiencheck.de AG) - Der Technologiekonzern Infineon Technologies AG (Profil) hat mit der chinesischen Huawei Technologies einen Rahmenvertrag zur Lieferung so genannter "End-to-End" Chip-Lösungen für die drahtgebundenen und drahtlosen Kommunikationssysteme von Huawei geschlossen.

Wie aus einer am Donnerstag veröffentlichten Pressemitteilung hervorgeht, werde Infineon Halbleiter-Lösungen für den Einsatz in Vermittlungsstellen (CO, Central Office), Teilnehmer-Endgeräten (CPE, Customer Premise Equipment) und Mobiltelefon-Plattformen liefern. Das Gesamtvolumen der Vereinbarung wurde auf 68 Mio. Dollar beziffert.

Neubiberg, Germany – March 10, 2009 – Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading supplier of Hall sensors for automotive applications, today announced a new family of Hall-effect switches and latches targeting a broad range of industrial applications, such as motor control and automation systems. The new TLI49x6 product family includes high precision Hall-effect switches and latches based on chopped Hall probes. It offers enhanced accuracy and robustness against electrical disturbances. Tiny SMD packages and slim leaded packages are available for high flexibility and compact designs for industrial applications.


The new product family includes five devices; the TLI4906x series of switches and the TLI4946x series of latches, both with various package options.


The TLI4906x is a high precision Hall-effect switch with high-accuracy switching thresholds for ambient operating temperatures of up to 125 °C. It is ideally suited for a broad portfolio of industrial and consumer applications that require high precision switching points for position sensing, such as security systems, alignment control, push buttons, keyboards, key switches, and machine tools.


TLI4946x latches are ideal for controlling Brushless DC (BLDC) motors. The major advantage of the brushless technology in comparison to motors using brushes is that commutation is performed without mechanical contact: Therefore, BLDC motors are more reliable, more efficient and run quieter at faster speed. The TLI4946x latches are designed to exactly detect the rotor position of BLDC motors, for example in air conditioning systems, pumps, washing machines, DVD players and rolling shutters. Apart from effective control, the latches can also be used for index counting.

The Hall-effect switches comprise a chopped Hall probe, bias generator, compensation circuits, oscillator and an output transistor. The bias generator supplies the Hall probe and the active circuits. Compensation circuits stabilize response of the IC over temperature and reduce the impact of process variations. The sensor module delivers the same and stable outputs regardless of temperature. Active error compensation reject offset affects in the signal path and the impact of mechanical stress in the package caused by molding, soldering and thermal effects. The chopper technique together with the threshold generator and the comparator ensure high sensitivity and high stability of magnetic switching points. The industrial Hall-effect devices offer a very low jitter of typically 1µs.


The ICs have an open collector output stage with 20mA current sink capability. A wide operating voltage range from 2.7V to 18V with reverse polarity protection down to -18V and high ESD protection of ±4kV (HBM) make the TLI49x6 switch/latch family suitable for a variety of applications. A magnetic south pole with field strength above B op turns the output on, while a magnetic north pole exceeding B rp turns it off.


Availability and pricing


Infineon launches the new TLI49x6 family with five products. The unipolar switch TLI4906K is available in a 3-pin PG-SC59 package while the TLI4906L is supplied in a 3-pin PG-SSO-3 package. The Hall-effect latches TLI4946K and TLI4946-2K are both available in a PG-SC59, and the TLI4946-2L in a PG-SSO-3 package. Typical pricing, in quantities of 10,000 units, of TLI49x6K devices is approximately Euro 0.21 (approximately US $0.30) per piece. Engineering samples of the TLI49x6 family are available with volume production expected to start in April 2009.

Infineon supplying chips for India's e-passports

Infineon Technologies announced that it is the supplier of contactless security microcontrollers for India’s electronic passport program. The rollout has started with the issuance of e-passports to Indian diplomats and officials, with 30,000 expected to be issued.

By September 2009, the program is likely to be expanded to include passports used by the general public. Approximately 6 million passports are being issued annually in India.

The India electronic passport project utilizes the SLE 66CLX800PE security microcontroller from Infineon and was specifically designed for use in electronic passports, identity cards, e-government cards and payment cards. The security microcontroller features a crypto-coprocessor and can operate at high transaction speeds of up to 848 kbits/s even if elevated encryption and decryption operations have to be calculated.

The SLE 66CLX800PE offers all contactless proximity interfaces on a single chip: the ISO/IEC 14443 Type B interface and Type A interface which are both used for communication between electronic passports and the respective readers, and the ISO/IEC 18092 passive mode interface which is used in transport and banking applications mainly in Japan.

In addition to India, Infineon supplies its security microcontrollers to many other countries for use in e-passports including the U.S., Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Ivory Coast.

The ARX188 is targeted at feature-rich IAD designs with high throughput and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, while the ARX182 is the industry's first low-cost IAD solution targeted at the entry-level segment of Analog Telephone Adaptors with integrated DSL functionality (DSL-ATA). Higher switching frequencies allow the use of smaller and lower cost passive components, such as inductors and capacitors, resulting in higher power density designs. This also contributes to reduced system level energy requirements to provide an appropriate cooling environment. Infineon expects system cost reductions in some SMPS applications of up to 20 percent.

SMARTi(TM) LU

SMARTi LU is a highly integrated 2G/3G/LTE multi-mode RF transceiver compliant to 3GPP Rel.7 and Rel.8. It supports up to six 3G and LTE Bands simultaneously with Quad Band GSM/EDGE. The device supports the global spread of HSPA/LTE spectrum throughout a wide variety of bands. With its MIPI DigRF v4 compliant high-speed digital baseband interface, SMARTi LU sets a milestone towards "all digital" implementation and enables the silicon intensive baseband chips to follow a faster shrink path towards smaller technology nodes such as 32nm and below. SMARTi LU is based on a standard 65nm CMOS technology provided by multiple semiconductor foundries.

Samples and measurement results will be shown at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

SMARTi(TM) UEmicro

The SMARTi UEmicro is a single chip 2G/3G CMOS RF transceiver for the low end segment of the 3G market. It is a cost down version of the proven and widely adopted SMARTi UE with a backward compatible hardware and software interface via DigRF v3.09. With the elimination of external Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) and a simplified co-banded RF frontend without Rx filters SMARTi UEmicro perfectly matches mass market requirements for ultra low cost 3G handsets. SMARTi UEmicro delivers exceptional RF performance for up to three of the globally used WCDMA bands plus Dual- or Quad-Band GSM/EDGE at lowest system cost.

Customer sampling will start beginning of 2nd quarter 2009, mass production is planned for end of 2009.

Markets Close Lower But Move Off Lows Late

The major indices closed today’s session lower, but they were able to show some life in the final half hour of trading to make up for some of their earlier losses. The Dow was able to close less than 1% lower, but the S&P and Nasdaq both moved nearly 2% to the downside today. The markets made their moves on low volume as many traders have already closed shop for 2008 with the next two weeks being holiday shortened. Economic data will be featured tomorrow as a week’s worth of data will be packed into the next two trading days. Tomorrow’s today will include GDP, Consumer Sentiment, and Existing & New Home Sales for November. These items could attract some attention, but traders already expect this data to be low so an outlier could cause a move in the markets. Oil was unable to hold on to early morning gains as crude continues to be very volatile. OPEC had hoped to stabilize prices with the most recent output cuts, but traders of the commodity continue to be in control of prices.

TECHNOLOGY
The Technology sector performed in-line with the overall market today as sellers took the entire market lower on light volume. The sector moved in a steady downward trend throughout the session and closed near the session lows. The Software & Services segments were lower during the session today as not buyers were willing to make bets heading into the holiday shortened trading week. The Hardware & Equipment segments were also lower with semiconductors posting the largest losses during the session. Ratings action for the sector included only two upgrades while nine names were downgraded.

Infineon-Tochter Primarion im Patentstreit mit Volterra
Im November hatte die kalifornische Volterra Semiconductor Corporation beim Gericht für den Northern District of California (CAND) eine Klage wegen Patentverletzung gegen die ebenfalls in Kalifornien ansässige Infineon-Tochterfirma Primarion eingereicht. Beide Unternehmen stellen ähnliche Produkte her, darunter Controller-Chips für (DC-DC-)Spannungswandler, die etwa auf PC-Mainboards, auf Grafikkarten, in Servern, Notebooks und Netzwerkgeräten zu finden sind.


Primarion und Infineon wehren sich gegen diese Klage nun mit einer Gegenklage. Darin werfen sie Volterra vor, das US-Patentamt bei der Beantragung der Patente 6,020,729 und 6,225,795 getäuscht zu haben. Daher seien diese Patente, die ein Verfahren für Schaltwandler beschreiben, ohnehin ungültig.

Der Volterra-Mitgründer und heutige Forschungschef Anthony Stratakos soll laut Infineon/Primarion eine bereits 1995 von der Uni Berkeley veröffentlichte Publikation, an der er 1998 promovierte, dem US-Patentamt nicht vorgelegt haben. In dem 1995 veröffentlichten Papier habe er die vermeintlich schützenswerte Erfindung bereits offengelegt. (ciw/c't)

ROUNDUP: Sachsen arbeitet weiter an Qimonda-Hilfspaket

DRESDEN (dpa-AFX) - In Sachsen wird weiter am Rettungspaket für den angeschlagenen Speicherchiphersteller Qimonda (Profil) gearbeitet. "Es gibt noch kein finales Vertragswerk", sagte Regierungssprecher Peter Zimmermann am Dienstag nach der Sitzung des Kabinetts. Die Staatsregierung sei sich aber einig, alles zu tun, um das Werk am Standort Dresden zu halten. Am Wochenende war ein Hilfspaket für den von Insolvenz bedrohten Halbleiter-Hersteller präsentiert worden. Danach will Sachsen 150 Millionen Euro gewähren, 100 Millionen Euro das Land Portugal, wo es ein Qimonda-Werk gibt, und 75 Millionen Euro der Mutterkonzern Infineon (Profil). Von dem erwartet die Landesregierung eigentlich ein stärkeres Engagement bei der Rettung von Qimonda.

Die Landesregierung stehe uneingeschränkt hinter dem Kabinettsbeschluss der vergangenen Woche, sagte Zimmermann. Das angebotene Darlehen zur Rettung von Qimonda war an die Bedingung für Infineon geknüpft, einen Betrag in gleicher Höhe beizusteuern. Der neue Vorschlag unter Beteiligung des Landes Portugal müsse genau geprüft werden. Man sei sich einig, dass es einer nachhaltigen, kalkulierbaren und verlässlichen Lösung bedarf, sagte er. "Der Ministerpräsident hat den Wirtschaftsminister und den Finanzminister gebeten, alle vorliegenden Informationen miteinander zu vernetzen und eine gemeinsame Einschätzung zu geben, wie es in den nächsten Tagen und Wochen weitergehen soll", sagte er.

SACHSEN BETONT VERANTWORTUNG VON INFINEON FÜR DIE ZUKUNFT SEINER TOCHTER

Zimmermann verwies auf die Verantwortung des Mutterkonzerns Infineon für die Zukunft seiner Tochter. "Er ist der alleinige Ansprechpartner und damit auch Verhandlungspartner und möglicherweise Kooperationspartner der sächsischen Staatsregierung", sagte er. "Das Gesamtfinanzierungskonzept von Qimonda muss unter maßgeblicher Beteiligung des Hauptanteilseigner abgesichert sein", betonte er. Es könnten sich aber auch andere Gesprächspartner beteiligen, so wie Portugal. Am 6. Januar soll es eine außerplanmäßige Kabinettssitzung geben, um die Ergebnisse zu diskutieren.

Das Dresdner Qimonda-Werk mit derzeit rund 3.200 Beschäftigten ist mit AMD und Infineon einer der drei großen Chipproduzenten am Halbleiterstandort Sachsen, dem einzigen bedeutenden in Europa. Geht Qimonda in Insolvenz, wird eine Sogwirkung befürchtet. Rund 40.000 Arbeitsplätze gibt es in der Halbleiter-, IT- und Kommunikationsbranche in Sachsen./gj/DP/he
