Hey, guys. My 7-year-old son ran his first 5k this weekend. 26:20 - I thought that was pretty impressive for his age!
I'm running in the Hood to Coast Relay this weekend - should be fun!
No DOubt> As usual with races of that distance, it is all mental....rain or shine>
Wow, no I missed that. Doesn't look like it slowed down the winner too much - 2:06:35 was a new course record!
OMG>>Be your own FIRE RHINO>> Man that was amazingly fast>> Great to hear from you, and that music was quite a nice "kick" to boot this am!!!!!!
You see the LA Marathon footage? We got like 5 inches of rain yesterday.....
:)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH>>>>LOL> Now I find out......coulda shoulda woulda......
My 1st marathon had my so gung ho through about 19.5 miles but sure enough the WALL hit me like a ton of bricks>>>Supprisingly enough to me it wasn't the joints that hurt the worst, it was all the skin rubbing and chafing in all the wrong places....TMI am sure, but LMAOOOOO also>
Thanks. Yeah, those marathons can get rough after 20-22 miles.
I'm doing one in October - hopefully, I won't hit the wall.
Rhino
Thanks RHINO, and good luck this weekend! Here's the stats> 3.42 hrs in the marathon, was on pace to be under 3.00-3.15 hrs through mile 22 then....lol...it got a bit ugly...
placed in top 5% of the 29-34 year old age group in the tri.
I'm running a 25K road race that is part of a winter series on Sunday. Snow is in the forecast, so it should be a lot of fun. I used to be on the treadmill a lot this time of year, but got myself equipped for winter running and love it!
Olympic triathlete - that is impressive! What are your PRs? How did you do in the Marathon?
Saw the Hood to Coast movie last night - it was only showing one night and should be out on DVD later this summer. It was really good - I'd highly recommend it to any serious runners.
RHINO ur a stud> Am a two time Olympic Triathaloner, and did the L.A. Marathon a few years back for chits and giggels also> if I loived closer I'd be on your relay and running team forsure>!!!!!
My team's application was approved for the 2011 Hood to Coast Relay - can't wait!
Rhino
Copy that Rhino, and congrats on the great results! Am familiar with pounding out some nice times as well, usually placed pretty strong in my age groups...you guys are gonna get me motivated to get up earlier and log a few miles pre market.....and man I need the push....lmao
Thanks. The race was actually last Sunday, and it went pretty well. I won my age group and was 20th out of 300 entrants.
Glad to have another IHUB Runner stop by - spread the word.
Rhino
Love the theme here, as am a trader/investor, and a previous marathoner and triathaloner.....Good luck on sunday, them stairs look steep
This picture doesn't do it justice, but I'm running a 20K trail race this Sunday, which includes running up these stairs twice. It is about 200 steps and has some 90 degree turns that you don't see in the picture (but you can see how far below the river is where you start - the photo is at the top).
and here's another shot along the top of the river bluffs (not me in the picture, just some random runner from last year's race):
Should be fun!
Sweet! 20 Miles is quite a run. I,m not up for any 20 mile marathons right now.Best of luck buddy. Have a great day! TK
Had a good 20 mile run this morning - I think I'm ready to sign up for another marathon.
Running is a great release from everything... good for you in so many ways.
Thanks buddy & best of luck on that pal. I have to run every day. My job is beyond stressful. I will blow up with out it! TK
I'm running my first 5K of the year this coming Sunday. Hoping to break 19 minutes.
Rhino
Thanks. I'll probably try another one in the Fall.
Hey, at least you finished it...most people can't say they have done one (me included) lol. That first half time was quite decent!
Anyways, congrats on getting it done, good job!
Illinois Marathon didn't go as well as I had hoped, but I finished.
Ran the first half in 1:39 and felt pretty comfortable, but by Mile 15 I could feel my legs getting heavy on me. By Mile 17, my legs were cramping pretty badly, and I starting walking some. I think the high humidity played a big factor, as fluid/electrolyte loss likely led to the cramping. Ended up running/walking the second half in 2:09 for a finish of 3:48.
I'm ready for a summer of 5Ks and 10Ks now. Might try to tackle another marathon later this year. Thinking perhaps Dallas in December.
Rhino
Good to hear you've been running. btw, I took your suggestion awhile back and requested a change to the name of this board to include trail running, but IHUB Admin never changed it. I guess we're stuck with IHUB ROAD RUNNERS.
An old college buddy is trying to get me to do a 30-mile trail run outside Chicago in November. Not sure if I'm ready to tackle anything like that yet. We'll see how the marathon goes first. I'm hoping to finish under 3:30.
Rhino
Nice! Let me know how it goes. I havent raced yet this year...but been running...did 2 hours trail running on Friday, it was great. Still gotta train for my first marathon...whenever that may be, lol.
I'm running the Illinois Marathon next Saturday, so wish me luck. Right now, the long-term forecast looks like rain, not exactly what I was hoping for.
If our buddy, Dean Bradley, comes through for us, it could be a fun way to end the week!
Rhino
Ran a 10-Miler yesterday in 1:09:50. Back in my youth, I could break an hour for 10 miles - hopefully, with some more training I can get close to that again. About a year ago, I would have been lucky to break 1:20 for 10 miles, so I'm definitely making progress. Btw/ my 10-Miler yesterday was my 73rd day in a row running.
Rhino
Completed Run #25 this morning!
Hopefully 7 more days added to that string Rhino
Thanks for those links, rt.
I have actually run 17 days in a row now. I used to be lucky to get 3 days a week, but now I make myself run at least 2 miles a day to keep a streak I won't want to break. Good motivation. I just need to start running longer. I did 8mi in the cold this morning, which is a good start.

Jack Daniels' Running Formula is one of the most widely used running programs on the high school level but will work for any age. Below are links to the book and other topics used within the program.

Actually ran more last week than I have in awhile. Feeling it in the back. Off to do some stationary biking. lol
Glad you found this Board, RT. Please help spread the word if you know any other runners on IHUB. I'll check out that site you suggested.
Again, welcome!
Rhino
Here's a good web site for the sport. It appears to be more about racing but has a great search function on the message board to look up info on training and injuries. A lot of knowledgeable people post there.

Nice board. I used to run regularly but now have to cross train more than run, due to health reasons. I get my fix by coaching cross country and track at the neighborhood high school.
I have done 4 marathons, never anything longer. I got this idea a few months ago that I want to try to run a marathon in every state. So far, my first 4 are in different states, but I'm going to have to run a few a year to get it all done before I'm too old.
I ran my first 3 in 1991, 1995 and 1996 and my 4th earlier this month (13+ years later). Suffice to say, the first 3 were a lot easier, since I was a lot younger and fitter. I haven't been doing nearly enough running to be running marathons, so my New Year's Resolution is going to be to get my ass in shape!
Maybe this other hobby of mine, stock trading, will help me retire early so I have more time to train!
Rhino
Nice...I havent trail ran lately, but looking to get back into it soon. Got tons of trails around where I live, though the weather isn't the best lately. One of my resolutions will be to get a marathon and perhaps an ultra run done sometime during the year too....but that was my resolution this year and so far I havent done either, lol.
I'll work on that - need to redo my logo first! I agree, trail running is much better than pounding the pavement. I run every Sunday along one of the most-scenic local trails, and yesterday was absolutely beautiful with a light dusting of snow on all the trees. Could have kept on running all day... but I decided I better call it a day at about 10 miles.
Rhino
Maybe change your board name to say "Road and trail runners" or better yet, "Trail and road runners"
Okay, I noticed I got a new boardmark here (finally). Please don't be shy.
Rhino
With 156,781 IHUB Members, I would venture to guess there are tens of thousands of runners amongst us. Hopefully this can become a popular board for those than share the love of running.

There is more to running than multi-bagger stock runners. This board has been created as a place for people that share the common interests of stock trading and running.
I hope this can become a place where runners share information about running, whether it be training, racing, or anything else running related.
All runners are welcome, whether you're just trying your first 5K or you're a veteran ultra-marathoner. This can be a place to share experiences, training ideas, or anything related to running.
