Way oversold and a perfect reaction to the news. I was a ble to load nicely today.
Look back, this always pays me.
Huge buying opportunity!
I’m going in.
And there's the ugly quarter that someone got tipped off on. Sleazy. Tried to warn the longs not to fall for the hurricane hype. Stock likely to take another hit tomorrow. I will say there was something encouraging in the report...backlog increased significantly on a sequential basis to over $200M.

So why is the stock tanking today BEFORE the earnings announcement this afternoon? Looks like someone got an early look at the numbers...and didn't like what they saw. Shareholder lawsuits starting soon.
Oh gotcha. So living in the now, what are you expecting for earnings next month? Another .09 or so in earnings. Or do you think the hurricane will boost earnings to more like .15/share?
Im not in to charity or rehashing the past exploits of GV, I prefer to live in the now and the last two months Ive made some nice coin on GV's swings from here to the $6.25 ball park.
They have a Quarterly coming up, perhaps banging the state of Florida via FEMA at 3 times normal rates will add some Benjamins to GV's bottom line.
I figure they have 1 or 2 more quarters to show some positive numbers then after that momentum disappears so will us traders.
Haha well maybe you can help me keep up (I've only followed this company for over 10 years). Please give me all the examples of when the stock USUALLY trades between $5.60 and $6.25 before the quarterly report is due. Or maybe you should look up the definition of usually. One time in the last few decades does not mean usually.
I just wish I had shorted this over $6. Get ready for the drop to the $4's when they report a flattish quarter next month.
Its 2017 try to keep up, they established a trading range, go with it
Uh what are you talking about? You mean one time? Can't be usually as GV traded in the $1's and $2's for most of 2014, 2015 & 2016.
Ive noticed that too, usually ranges between here and $6.25 right before quarterlies are due.
It's looking like I might need to be looking for a position here again.
This has been s good money maker for me 3-4x per year. Just about a buy again. It's been a while but this always goes up after a quiet period and down trend. Easy chart to plan with
Quite the shake GV is getting today, I guess Hurricane Nate isnt angry enough to cause Florida harm
news at 11
I went through Irma in Florida and POWER not being restored was one of the reasons I left. GV has plenty of restoration work and being billed at 3 times the normal rate for emergency services may have an impact on the next 2 quarters. I like'm.
Why do you say that? Power was restored to 99% of Florida last month, less than 2 weeks after Irma hit.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-power-outage-numbers-hurricane-irma-20170920-story.html
Not sure why you'd be chasing the stock in the $6's. Because of a 1-time boost from Irma? Not even sure how much it'll help. Because they had to pull crews away from working on their normal contracts, I doubt it moves the needle much. Last year Hurricane Matthew was supposed to bring all this extra work for GV. There were even pictures of GV crews helping restore power. It sure didn't show up in the financials. Maybe Irma adds an extra penny or two of earnings in Q3. Is that worth the stock soaring from the low $4's to the low $6's??
And aren't you worried about the backlog? Revenues and earnings down the past 2 quarters, but the decline in backlog is really scary. At a time when many companies in the sector are doing great, GV backlog dropped sequentially from $190M at the end of Q4 to $152.3M at the end of Q1. Then another big drop to $129.7M at the end of Q2. To make matters worse, their high margin backlog had declined all the way to $13.7M last quarter, down from $30.9M the prior year. Yikes! What the heck is going on? It's like they've gotten zero new business so far in 2017.
No idea, they have their hands full with south Florida at the moment. Puerto Rico and the outer islands have been devastated by the canes this season. Anything is possible. I added some GV today
then $8.00 then $9.00 then $10.00 I have No doubts
Can Goldfield get contracts to rebuild puerto rico?
Goldfield has a few profitable quarters coming up. The devastation sustained in Florida is incredible. GV's resources are desperately needed in Puerto Rico, talk about a bad situtaion.
work in Florida hurricane

Love GV's chart. Those mountain peaks just keep breaking through the clouds. Thank you Irma Jose & Maria?
Sweet six is going to be a rear view mirror
Agreed, there is plenty there to keep them busy for a while, added @ $5.67 this am
with the destruction in florida, look for GV to have a good quarter.
Hurricane Jose went north but Maria, she'sa heading to Florida. The Keys are just now starting to resupply but if Maria strikes them, its lights out, same with south Florida, so many still without power many many lines down in Dade and Broward counties not mention the whole west coast. Goldfield will be busy for a while and that means increasing revenues as the recovery process continues.
2 more tropical storms forming in the Atlantic, Norma coming across Mexico. GV is in the right place at the right time
https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/video/downed-power-lines-for-miles-in-fl
Hurricane season active
more severe storms possible in weeks ahead
No one wants is talking about it
I was just notified of this sparkler on the Hurricane stocks board as being a significant contender with IRMA's and HARVEYs clean up process. GV's IR department is slacking, GV is flying under the radar IMO
Great growth? Revenues, earnings & backlog all declined last quarter.
Great growth here. I'm surprised more traders don't see this gem.
Thousands of looks as a big
gain yesterday? News and the market.
Nose smelling a tremendous and unique potential in Goldfield
today.
The huge huriccane Irma and JOSIE ( not talked about yet ) coming to the direction of Florida will level power generation. Even the strongest high transmission lines will be damaged with wind of 185 at ground and 250 up in the tower height. In addition lightning, flying debris, falling towers, flooding and tornados is beyond comprehension.
Nice move up today from its gradual decline.
Very predictable
I sold but will get this again next round of dips.
This is getting predictable

Hurricane play angle, here is a bit of info from SEC filing and a company website (cut and paste):
Revenues and results of operations in our electrical construction business can be subject to seasonal variations. These variations are influenced by weather, customer spending patterns and system loads. The Company primarily performs work in the southeastern United States. Electric utility customers normally perform their system upgrades and maintenance work during off-peak seasons when the demand for electrical power is reduced, which is in the first two quarters of the year in the southeast region of the United States. This pattern is apparent by the reduction in the number of active projects in the third quarter.
However, since hurricane season normally peaks during this period, this pattern can be offset with
storm restoration work resulting from hurricane damage.
When disaster strikes, Southeast Power continues to
rise to the challenge. Our personnel and our extensive fleet are prepared to mobilize immediately and operate under the most adverse conditions while ensuring the critical time constraints of our customers are met. Our crews have played a major role in storm restoration activities in and around the Southeast for every major hurricane to strike the
region in recent years.
