Company Overview

GelTech Solutions provides innovative, environmentally safe and creative products to agriculture, various industries and the general public that help improve lives, reduce the need for such precious commodities as water, protect lives and property from wildfires and potentially helping to reduce the impact of hurricanes upon storm-prone areas.

Our corporate philosophy is much like the hexagon reflected in the chosen shape of our corporate and product identities. The hexagon is the strongest naturally occurring shape known to man. Our products utilize natural solutions to support and strengthen nature and our surroundings. The hexagon, made up of six sides, symbolizes our goal to provide sustainability and world changing solutions to common problems across six continents of the world-today and for future generations.

The segment about Peter and FireIce discusses issues facing firefighters today and demonstrates how FireIce can be the next generation solution for resolving these issues. To view the segment in its entirety, please access the segment via the following link:

GelTech Solutions changes the very fabric of the industries we touch. For firefighting, we've created FireIce®, a piece of fire protection equipment that helps firefighters and homeowners do more with the current resource constraints.  We brought Soil2O® to the agricultural industry, a soil conditioner and dust suppressant that retains and releases 95% of the water back into the root zone.

Patent-pending FireIce, a nontoxic fire gel, has changed the landscape of commercial fire fighting and residential fire protection. It stops fire in its tracks, uses less water and saves more lives. It's the only product in the marketplace that can easily be used for both direct fire suppression and structure protection.  In addition to being used on traditional fire grounds, FireIce is now being deployed to combat man-hole fires, coal fires and wildland fires.

Soil2O is more than a soil conditioner. Its particles hold up to 400 times their weight in water and release 95% of that water back to the root zone of the plant or soil upon plant demand. It cuts the amount of water needed and reduces irrigation by up to 50%. Soil2O is specially formulated with a natural rewetting ability that continues to function even after dry out. Using Soil2O doesn't eliminate watering, but it does mean you can water far less often.

Nature doesn't come without its challenges, and GelTech Solutions overcomes those challenges by bringing cost-effective, environmentally friendly solutions, such as fire protection equipment or dust suppressants, that have the potential to change the world. We continue to strive for excellence in all areas of our business by delivering first class products to the global marketplace that solve common problems with innovative solutions.

Con Edison of New York adopts a proactive approach to fire safety for its own facilities and for responses to fires involving energy-delivery systems that may have an impact on public safety. A comprehensive regimen of fire/life-safety assessments is conducted at facilities occupied by different operating groups throughout the company. Facilities personnel participate with visiting fire/life-safety professionals to discuss any issues assessments reveal, and to collaborate on plans for lowering fire risk and strengthening compliance with applicable fire and building codes.

In addition, the company has collaboratively developed innovative fire-fighting techniques, including methodology for using water to fight fires on live electrical equipment.

During 2012, another innovation was introduced that is particularly effective when suppressing fire in manholes or other enclosed structures. It involves the use of a new fire suppression agent called Fire Ice that is added to a hose stream in correct proportions and applied to faulting equipment. The additive helps extinguish flames quickly and dramatically cools burning equipment much more effectively than water alone. This speeds putting out fires and reduces the risk of hot equipment reigniting. With manhole events, there is the possibility that superheated combustion gases and flames may move to adjacent manholes through connecting ducts. The Fire Ice additive can also be used to douse nearby structures to lower the likelihood of ignition originating from the initial fire and degradation to the grid.

A team of Con Edison employees reached out to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) research and development group to demonstrate the new extinguishing agent. FDNY representatives were shown how Fire Ice could be safely employed to douse live electrical fires in an underground structure. Because of the collaboration with the FDNY, the equipment used in the demonstration was compatible and easily adaptable for first responders. At the conclusion of the demonstrations, the FDNY agreed to pilot a program in Brooklyn using Fire Ice for underground vault and manhole fires. As a result, the possibility of collateral damage to electrical equipment is reduced, the ability to quickly extinguish these types of fires limits the quantities of smoke and other combustion by-products, and the effectiveness of the method limits exposure to fire hazards for firefighters, company employees, and the public. In 2013, this firefighting technique will be deployed across the company to those employees trained to respond to underground vault and manhole fires in conjunction with the FDNY.

“I want people to be safe in their workplace and know what to do in an emergency.”
