Vancouver, British Columbia, November 8, 2013 - PI Financial has updated coverage on Equal Energy (EQU.TO) (EQU). The company also has convertible debentures listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (EQU-DBB.TO). Based on strengthening propane pricing and fundamentals, analyst Alistair Toward reiterated his buy recommendation and increased his 12-month target price from $6.00 to $7.00, a premium of 40% to the $4.68 price the day the report was issued.

Montclair Energy LLC said Monday that Equal Energy's board has rejected its $142.4 million acquisition offer.

The $4 per share offer price was a 15 percent premium to Equal Energy Ltd.'s Friday closing price of $3.49.

Equal Energy shares rose 29 cents, or 8.3 percent, to $3.78 in midday trading. Over the past year shares of the Canadian oil and natural gas exploration, development and production company have traded between $2.39 and $4.05.

Equal Energy Ltd. has about 35.6 million outstanding shares, according to FactSet.

Privately held Montclair Energy said that it plans to evaluate all of its strategic options, which it said may include nominating independent directors to Equal Energy's board. The company said that it currently is not soliciting proxies or consents from Equal Energy shareholders and that it would be open to further discussions with Equal Energy management.

Would this be considered a hostile takeover??

Montclair Energy, LLC ("Montclair") announced today that it delivered a letter to the Board of Directors of Equal Energy Ltd. (NYSE: EQU; TSX: EQU) ("Equal Energy") on February 27, 2013 in which Montclair proposed to acquire all of the current outstanding shares of common stock of Equal Energy for $4.00 per share in cash and in subsequent conversations, confirmed that the $4.00 share price would also apply to Equal Energy managements' restricted shares as well.

Picked up a small position this morning, 2,000 @ $3.10. I think there is a lot of undiscovered value in this little gem.

The Hunton formation is one of the most misunderstood assets in Equal's portfolio. Yet this asset is the most productive and most valuable in the company's portfolio. The fact that Equal is the sole public company with significant exposure to the Hunton has contributed to the relative obscurity of this play.

It is clear that the Hunton play is a sufficiently developed play with a long production history and well established economics. The play certainly lacks the "sex appeal" of newer shale plays in Oklahoma, such as the Mississippian Lime, yet the Hunton development has continued at a brisk pace over the last few years despite weak and volatile natural gas prices in a testimony to the play's attractive economics.

It is also abundantly clear that the company's Hunton asset is extremely undervalued at current levels and this is exactly why the company is undertaking a strategic review to unlock shareholder value. It is expected that the strategic review would either lead to a full sale of the company or the divesture of its Canadian assets and the conversion of the Hunton and Mississippian asset in a dividend trust. Under both scenarios Equal Energy's stock should experience a significant upward re-rating.
