The production version of the pickup truck will open for preorders in Q2 2021, with deliveries beginning as early as 2023.

Canoo's pickup truck was built with several unique features to help customers do more with their vehiclesi:
Pull-out Bed Extension:
The pickup truck bed is six feet long and can extend to a fully enclosed eight feet, allowing big items such as a 4 by 8 ft sheet of plywood to easily fit inside.
The pull-handle bed extension also helps with loading and unloading the truck. The extension also serves as a license plate holder.
When the bed is extended, a second layer of tailgate doors can be swiveled out.
The bed-extension also houses a secondary lamp, containing all tail lamp functions, so the truck can be driven while the bed space is maximized.
Fold Down Worktable + Cargo Storage:
To offer the greatest customer utility, the pickup features a front cargo storage area that can hold tools or gear, also includes a fold down worktable with electrical outlets.
The workstation table is extendable to allow customers to have maximized work surface on the go, in addition to providing an area to put on gear before heading out exploring.
Flip-Down Side Tables:
Both sides of the vehicle house a flip down table in two expandable depths.

On the side of the vehicle there is a hidden step to allow quick and easy access to the truck bed.
Underneath the step is a flexible storage area for items including: a first-aid kit, cooler for snacks and drinks, lockable laptop storage and more.

Modular Bed with Space Dividers:

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has hired Ulrich Kranz, a former executive of Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft or BMW (OTC: BMWYY), to help lead the work on its own electric car project, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
What Happened: Kranz was hired by Apple recently after he stepped down as a chief executive officer of Canoo Inc. (NASDAQ: GOEV), a developer of self-driving vehicles, according to the report, which said an Apple spokesperson confirmed the move.
Before co-founding Canoo, Kranz was reportedly senior vice president of the group that developed the all-electric i3 hatchback and i8 hybrid sports car at BMW, where he worked for 30 years.
Kranz will report to Doug Field, who runs the Apple Car project and previously led the development of Tesla Inc.’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) mass-market Model 3.

Why It Matters: The Apple Car project was in incubation for a while, but rumors about Apple accelerating its efforts on the project have been floating around since last year.
Several potential partners were reported, but Apple has remained tightlipped about its foray into the crowded EV field. Over time, rumors also suggested Apple has scaled down its plan to build a full-fledged car and is now looking at developing an underlying self-driving car system.
Price Action: Apple shares closed 0.8% lower in Thursday’s regular trading session at $126.11, but added 0.1% in the after-hours session to $126.28.

Canoo is on track to start production on its electric lifestyle vehicles in 2022.
Canoo Inc.’s latest press releases lists Dallas in the dateline, an unusual designation for a company officially based in Los Angeles County.
Although the electric vehicle startup’s documents filed with
Securities and Exchange Commission continue to claim Torrance as
the company’s headquarters, Canoo Chief Executive Tony Aquila’s
recent remarks to analysts hint at potential changes down the line.
“In addition to our design and engineering hub in California,
we are diversifying our footprint of our employee base,”
Aquila said during an earnings call on May 17.
“We have added, or we’ll be adding, offices in Texas focused on corporate functions, rapid prototyping,
and go-to-market; Michigan, focused on purchasing and costing;
and … Wisconsin, which will focus on electric powertrain research and innovation.”
“We’re also exploring international hubs for further expansion. Geographic diversification of our workforce will optimize our
human capital costs and enable us to attract talent specific to
certain regions.
The result is a workforce that is stronger, more diverse and drives higher return on capital that is able to work in multiple time zones,” he added.
Canoo is three years into its 15-year lease for office space in Torrance.
On Jan. 1, the company signed a five-year contract for a facility
owned by Aquila that’s located in
Justin, Texas, near Dallas/Fort Worth.
The area is also home to much of the company’s brass
— Chief Accounting Officer Ramesh Murthy, who came on board in March;
Chief Administrative Officer Tony Lee;
Interim Chief Financial Officer Renato Giger;
Vice President of Intellectual Property John Maxin;
Global Head of Human Resources Kelly Stover; and General Counsel Hector Ruiz.
Aquila, who took over for Canoo co-founder Ulrich Kranz in April,
has strong ties to Texas.
His private equity firm, AFV Partners, is based in Dallas.
AFV invested about $35 million in Canoo prior to the company’s
merger with Hennessy Capital Acquisition Corp. IV and
its subsequent debut on the Nasdaq.
During the May 17 call with analysts Aquila also went over Canoo’s first-quarter financial results
and provided an update on the company’s business dealings.
Canoo spent $39.3 million on research and development during the
quarter compared to $19.3 million in the prior-year period.
Selling, general and administrative expenses added up to
$55.6 million compared to $4.1 million during the first quarter of 2020.
The company, which has $641 million in cash at its disposal,
also reported a net loss of $15.2 million,
down from a net loss of $30.9 million in the prior year period, while capital expenditures increased from $700,000 to $12.1 million for the three months ended March 31.
Canoo said it anticipates spending approximately $65 million to $75 million for operating expenses in the second quarter,
and $45 million to $55 million for capital expenditures.
Aquila said the company’s workforce increased by about 28% during
the quarter and now consists of 452 employees and 92 contractors.
The total will increase to a “critical mass” of about 700 to 1,000 workers by 2022.
Aquila also reiterated Canoo’s plans announced in April to move
away from licensing its technology to other automakers.
The company’s two-pronged approach to manufacturing will involve
working with a manufacturing partner during the first phase of
vehicle production before establishing its own manufacturing
facilities.
He said his team has identified two “high-quality, established,
globally positioned contract manufacturers,”
and will announce the finalist in the second quarter.

Canoo is on track to start production on its electric lifestyle vehicles in 2022.
Canoo Inc.’s latest press releases lists Dallas in the dateline, an unusual designation for a company officially based in Los Angeles County.
Although the electric vehicle startup’s documents filed with
Securities and Exchange Commission continue to claim Torrance as
the company’s headquarters, Canoo Chief Executive Tony Aquila’s
recent remarks to analysts hint at potential changes down the line.
“In addition to our design and engineering hub in California,
we are diversifying our footprint of our employee base,”
Aquila said during an earnings call on May 17.
“We have added, or we’ll be adding, offices in Texas focused on corporate functions, rapid prototyping,
and go-to-market; Michigan, focused on purchasing and costing;
and … Wisconsin, which will focus on electric powertrain research and innovation.”
“We’re also exploring international hubs for further expansion. Geographic diversification of our workforce will optimize our
human capital costs and enable us to attract talent specific to
certain regions.
The result is a workforce that is stronger, more diverse and drives higher return on capital that is able to work in multiple time zones,” he added.
Canoo is three years into its 15-year lease for office space in Torrance.
On Jan. 1, the company signed a five-year contract for a facility
owned by Aquila that’s located in
Justin, Texas, near Dallas/Fort Worth.
The area is also home to much of the company’s brass
— Chief Accounting Officer Ramesh Murthy, who came on board in March;
Chief Administrative Officer Tony Lee;
Interim Chief Financial Officer Renato Giger;
Vice President of Intellectual Property John Maxin;
Global Head of Human Resources Kelly Stover; and General Counsel Hector Ruiz.
Aquila, who took over for Canoo co-founder Ulrich Kranz in April,
has strong ties to Texas.
His private equity firm, AFV Partners, is based in Dallas.
AFV invested about $35 million in Canoo prior to the company’s
merger with Hennessy Capital Acquisition Corp. IV and
its subsequent debut on the Nasdaq.
During the May 17 call with analysts Aquila also went over Canoo’s first-quarter financial results
and provided an update on the company’s business dealings.
Canoo spent $39.3 million on research and development during the
quarter compared to $19.3 million in the prior-year period.
Selling, general and administrative expenses added up to
$55.6 million compared to $4.1 million during the first quarter of 2020.
The company, which has $641 million in cash at its disposal,
also reported a net loss of $15.2 million,
down from a net loss of $30.9 million in the prior year period, while capital expenditures increased from $700,000 to $12.1 million for the three months ended March 31.
Canoo said it anticipates spending approximately $65 million to $75 million for operating expenses in the second quarter,
and $45 million to $55 million for capital expenditures.
Aquila said the company’s workforce increased by about 28% during
the quarter and now consists of 452 employees and 92 contractors.
The total will increase to a “critical mass” of about 700 to 1,000 workers by 2022.
Aquila also reiterated Canoo’s plans announced in April to move
away from licensing its technology to other automakers.
The company’s two-pronged approach to manufacturing will involve
working with a manufacturing partner during the first phase of
vehicle production before establishing its own manufacturing
facilities.
He said his team has identified two “high-quality, established,
globally positioned contract manufacturers,”
and will announce the finalist in the second quarter.

Canoo's pickup truck was built with several unique features to help customers do more with their vehiclesi:
Pull-out Bed Extension:
The pickup truck bed is six feet long and can extend to a fully enclosed eight feet, allowing big items such as a 4 by 8 ft sheet of plywood to easily fit inside.
The pull-handle bed extension also helps with loading and unloading the truck. The extension also serves as a license plate holder.
When the bed is extended, a second layer of tailgate doors can be swiveled out.
The bed-extension also houses a secondary lamp, containing all tail lamp functions, so the truck can be driven while the bed space is maximized.
Fold Down Worktable + Cargo Storage:
To offer the greatest customer utility, the pickup features a front cargo storage area that can hold tools or gear, also includes a fold down worktable with electrical outlets.
The workstation table is extendable to allow customers to have maximized work surface on the go, in addition to providing an area to put on gear before heading out exploring.
Flip-Down Side Tables:
Both sides of the vehicle house a flip down table in two expandable depths.
Built into the side panel of the truck bed, the flip-down side table becomes a workbench with multi-functional power sources in close proximity.
Side Step + Storage:
On the side of the vehicle there is a hidden step to allow quick and easy access to the truck bed.
Underneath the step is a flexible storage area for items including: a first-aid kit, cooler for snacks and drinks, lockable laptop storage and more.
