$AGNPF Algernon Explores the Use of NP-120 (Ifenprodil) as a Novel Treatment for Coronavirus
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 06, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Algernon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (CSE: AGN) (FRANKFURT: AGW) (OTCQB: AGNPF) (the “Company” or “Algernon”) a clinical stage pharmaceutical development company is pleased to announce that it is exploring the potential of using NP-120 (Ifenprodil) as a novel treatment for COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. A recent independent study found that Ifenprodil significantly reduced acute lung injury (ALI) and improved survivability in an animal study with H5N1 infected mice. H5N1 is the most lethal form of influenza known to date with an over 50% mortality rate.
Based on this study, published by the American Society of Microbiology in mSystems in the December 2019 issue, the Company believes that Ifenprodil has the potential to be a front-line treatment for the most severe cases of coronavirus, and may also reduce morbidity in patients. Coronavirus currently has an overall predicted mortality rate of approximately 4%. Management’s belief that Ifenprodil is a possible treatment for COVID-19 is based on historic animal studies and not on human trials.
Despite the overall mortality rate of 4% based on current data, coronavirus-infected patients experience sometimes profound pulmonary complications including lung infiltrates, opacification, and risk of adult respiratory distress syndrome. Beyond systemic steroid therapy, clinicians have few agents with which to treat these patients and Ifenprodil may offer a new and efficacious treatment option that limits inflammatory infiltrates and the resulting fibrotic responses, as suggested in its earlier animal model studies.
Ifenprodil H5N1 Animal Study Background:
A genome wide RNAi interference approach to identify genes that aid in the recovery of cell viability after H5N1 infection, lead to the identification of the NMDA receptor antagonist Ifenprodil, which when tested in an animal model of H5N1 infection showed:
Markedly decreased leukocyte infiltration and lung injury scores in effected lungs
Significantly ameliorated edema infected mouse lung tissue
Significantly improved the survival of H5N1 infected mice by 40%

The company believes these findings could be relevant for reducing the lung-associated complications of coronavirus infection.
Algernon is preparing to apply for ethics approval in Australia for Ifenprodil, for its planned phase 2 clinical trial for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic cough.
“The Company has begun a process to review the potential of Ifenprodil as a novel treatment option for coronavirus”, said Christopher J. Moreau CEO of Algernon Pharmaceuticals. “Ifenprodil is a known, and approved safe drug that has been on the market in Japan for over 20 years and could be repurposed quickly to help in the treatment of the disease.”
Algernon has filed new intellectual property rights for NP-120 (Ifenprodil) for the treatment of respiratory diseases.
About NP-120 (Ifenprodil)
NP-120 (Ifenprodil) is an N-methyl-d-aspartate (NDMA) receptor glutamate receptor antagonist specifically targeting the NMDA-type subunit 2B (Glu2NB). Ifenprodil also exhibits agonist activity for the Sigma-1 receptor, a chaperone protein up-regulated during endoplasmic reticulum stress. Although the anti-fibrotic activity of Ifenprodil in IPF is not known, recent studies have suggested a link between both receptors and pathways associated with fibrosis.
NP-120 (Ifenprodil - brand name Cerocal) was initially developed by Sanofi in the 1990s in the French and Japanese markets for the treatment of circulatory disorders. The drug is genericized and sold in Japan.

Sorry, IHUB had a glitch that day and I had free L2 for that day only.
How do I get free level 2? I never got anything free here except harassment by others... I even saved those posts for future payback.
Thanks, that was one of the easier ones. They got billions coming out of their ears lol!
Hey IHUB, thanks for the free L2. :p, jk, I know you're having technical difficulties lol.
Have a great long weekend buddy, cheers!
Nice play!
I'll take 200% any day
Small money, but I'll take the %200+
And below $70 now, sometimes its just too easy to predict...
Looking ok now... Better next week IMO.
$4 hit, holding ok as well, should dip a lil before hitting $5.
CVSL still up nicely this week, looking for 3 cent break next week, would be huge!
AAPL is about to test the 200 day for the first time in quite a while. If you are not buying shares at this level, you are an idiot.
Still holding this lil guy.
Still holding and climbing, thought would see $4 this week, was wrong, but sitting nicely @ 3.50 atm.
But after it bounced off the $2 today, I grabbed a few at $2.03.
Didn't back in a lot because I think it will see 1.90, even 1.75 before it gets back into the mid 2's.
Bought back into SIRI today. Had held from 1.90 sold @ 2.20.
Can't hold high up, always a seller or two or three to knock it down.
Below $80 now tho...
CVSL holding the gains for now.
CVSL pop!
Thanks for the posts guys. JBII is up nicely today, IMO we will see $4 next week.
Falls business turns plastic into fuel

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - Imagine turning scraps of plastic into usable fuels. Some creative minds are making the idea into a reality, and it's happening right in Niagara Falls.
Currently, some 30 million tons of waste plastic in the U.S. goes to landfills. Plastic is made from oil, and now a company called J.B.I. based in Niagara Falls has found a way to convert the plastic back to oil.
This is no ordinary ribbon cutting. It may very well be the inauguration of a new era that converts waste plastic, like packaging from meat plants and scrap from auto factories, to usable gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, and natural gas.
JBI President and CEO John Bordynuik said, "The fuel reproduces cleaner than the fuels currently found in industry, due to the fact that plastics is already a highly refined hydrocarbon."
Plastic items we're all familiar with at home can become raw material for the process. The plastic is shredded first and then heated up into a gas. The processor, through a special catalyst, cracks the hydrocarbon chains in the plastic and separates out usable fuel.
"There's your fuel there That's it. This is heating oil right here. This is Number 2 Spec Fuel Oil," said Bordynuik.
It gets filtered and then pumped right into a tanker truck outside the plant. A factory in Canada will use the product to make plastic pipes. Niagara Falls is hoping the plastics-to-oil manufacturing process will expand and create more green jobs.
Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster said, "Every waste hauler in the United States, Canada, and a lot of other places, is going to have one of these units located on site, because now they can take plastic they would otherwise pay to landfill, and they can convert it into fuel to run their vehicles."
The creative development for the process started in this lab less than two years ago. A couple of pints of oil could be produced a day. The current plant produces 109 barrels a day. In two more years, the goal is to produce 20,000 barrels a day, and there's no shortage of plastic.
Bordynuik said, "We received 18 pallets of these alone last week. About 40,000 pounds we received. That's a lot of plastic, but to us, it's a lot of fuel. This is 109 barrels of fuel. 4,400 gallons of diesel."
The natural gas produced is used to heat and run the process. JBI created 40 green jobs to run the plant.

OPMG was a nice play for today!
Who wants to bet LNKD closes below $80 tomorrow!>
EXPE probably was the best pick to date, mind you right now AAPL looking like a strong buy, as if could have grabbed shares under $340 last days.
Ah was Canadian TV, no wonder lol!
Should have sold my 3300 shares above 50 cents, not at 10. D'uh!
Wow, actually hit 84 cents? As if couldn't make $1.
From 60 cents back down to under 30!><?
Still waiting on some news here I believe.
Was 100% wrong here, only way to make money was flipping .0003's to .0004, which I don't do.
