It is up another 6% in Australia and it will probably do the same here tomorrow. I think most lithium companies are bouncing nicely albeit there may be some differences due additional factors (e.g., already produces or not, partners, brine vs. spodumene, etc.). You may want to watch it again in a few days. I am actually expecting a nice dip and opportunity to buy more when the next quarterly report is announced. I expect the dip because of the low sale prices, but we will see...
I like the fact that it produces, has plenty of cash, little debt, stage 2 is progressing slightly ahead of schedule than our other common company, that it is well protected against hostile takeovers by Chinese companies or others due to its association with Toyota and that it is building a new converter in Japan for better product, which has been an issue. I always see it as my safest long term bet, even if not necessarily as the one returning highest SP rise, but what do I know.
Yes, let’s hope so. I am also thinking that 2020 will be the start of the recovery, but nothing surprises me with lithium.
Another haircut coming?
https://www.orocobre.com/wp/?mdocs-file=6689
Yes, Bolivia may also have had an effect, but probably less because lithium in Bolivia is less desirable due to its poorer chemistry and local conditions, even though the resource is huge. I took another look at schedules and I now think both LAC and Orocobre may complete their plants at around the same time (both in 2021 barring delays). Orocobre has less pressure because it is already producing and it is ahead in ponds but I am not sure about the new plant.
Last year’s Q4 report was released in mid January, so I expect the same for the Q4 report for 2019. I would not expect anything outstanding due to the lower lithium prices. The Naraha plant is Japan also expected in 2021 is the bigger deal as well as the expansion of it coincides with a rebound in lithium prices. I plan to start accumulating more soon.
Just heard of a Bolivian coup which has been happening....
In fact, their President (just today I heard) stepped aside.
That's 1 of the things I'm attributing Lacs' scary chart to ha !.....
Another might be their approaching earnings ? Does anyone have a timeline for those ?
There's also the the Jan-March outlook for lithium (as discussed below)....
I've actually not had much insight into Orocobre until I just now Googled 'em (this) which (dated today ?) seems to speak of them quite faourably !..... !https://www.orocobre.com/news/orocobre-swims-as-rivals-sink/
I'm totally? confident that (as a hard asset) lithium eventually should go on a great run !
Getting ready to watch the Seahawks vs 49ers tonight plus the Raptors vs The Clippers as well tonight - ha
Ha,ha, yes it is possibly a fly thing...
I think that since Orocobre is a producer, it is more affected by ongoing news on lithium prices and related political stuff. The recent news have obviously helped its SP over the last 3 weeks to the tune of a 20%+ increase. On the other hand, the fact that LAC is not yet a producer acts as a buffer and protects it more against the negative swings from news. However, this also means that LAC may not benefit as much from positive sector/global news. This is what may be happening now and with the market being more concerned about LAC’s project execution. The priority for LAC should be to complete construction pronto and efficiently to avoid burning extra cash, and to start getting some earnings. In my opinion, LAC should forget about NV mud for now (sorry bj) unless they get the deal of the century from say Tesla. My understanding is that Orocobre’s project is a bit ahead than LAC’s, but hopefully less than 6-12 months. I also think that they are ahead of LAC in terms of brine experience and expertise, but LAC has put together a good brine team and also has Ganfeng.
Regardless of comparisons, I like to own both companies simply because they are brine producers, which should provide some protection during tough times due to the lower costs. My other two companies are a spodumene (ALTAF, riskier but I still have hope while investing less in it) and GALXF, which is a hybrid producer of spodumene at present and of brine in the future with additional assets in Australia and Canada. I am losing in all of them and I have become an extra long term investor. I am hoping to see some very positive charts from you next year, but I will borrow more patience if necessary...
Hi NW2, I have not posted here lately, but I still have Orocobre shares. I think that Orocobre’s SP has recently benefited from the troubles in Chile and from other lithium news. This could be short lived if the situation in Chile improves, as Orocobre keeps getting lower sale prices, is still having trouble getting to nameplate production and the situation in Argentina presents its own risks. I nevertheless continue to own shares. Orocobre is one of the most stable junior lithium companies with low brine costs, no debt, plenty of cash, protection from hostile takeovers thanks to Toyota and partial avoidance of tricks from Chinese companies thanks to its links to Japan. In addition, it’s ongoing plant expansion is a bit ahead of schedule than that of our common company to the south. More important is the fact that they are building a carbonate/hidróxide converter plant in Japan while spending little cash. This could become a game changer because they will produce a much higher quality product and charge a higher price for it. Vertical integration and low costs will be the keys for lithium producers, especially during tough times. Orocobre is positioned to endure those tough times and to benefit from the better times ahead.
Anyway, I plan to keep my shares in Orocobre so I keep my lithium eggs in a few baskets (LAC, OROCF, GALXF and ALTAF at present). I am keeping an eye to see if the situation in Chile improves, which may result in another dip and provide a new opportunity to buy a few more shares.
Take care buddy!
Orocobre’s partner in Cauchari (Advantage Lithium) just announced new drilling results.

Annual report with good numbers below. Let’s hope that this report plus the new CEO and a turnaround in the lithium sector will help. The annual meeting will be on November 23.

I agree Doc. Orocobre and other junior producers will do well long term, even though this year has been in the sector (e.g, see LIT Global ETF), but it needs to be sustained with no more global news.
Great long term play for the lithium boom.
I guess a bit of charting would have come up handy, as Orocobre also struggles despite of all the good recent news. Times will get better.
The problem is that you don't have your finger on the pulse Bill....You're just going by flimsy "Media Reports".
LoL.....Me I prefer going by Cold Hard FACTS - and not just by some author's biased opine.

Below is the company’s response to the temporary Argentinian tax. The company expects that the devaluation of the Argentinian currency will counterbalance to some extent the approximately 8% tax.

Company’s summary of 2018-19 fiscal year financial report announced yesterday is below. Very good results.
https://www.orocobre.com/wp/?mdocs-file=4683
On page 3 we find this (their Q2 report)
On page 1 we find this (their Q4 report).......There's no Q3 report it seems !
Regardless, even if one COULD find their/a Q3 report ? - The damned things are SO bloody obfuscated and confusing !....
I'd like to see earnings etc. tabled sequentially or better yet I'd like to see the info CHARTED !......But these Financial Wizard Accountants, etc. prefer to play the/a shell game with those of us studying - They compare this Q4 with that of last years' Q4.....
Tossing their figures all over the place - leaving US to try and make heads and tails of the mess - For some their Year End is on March 31st - For others it's on September 31st.....
Can't they just SHOW us (by using Clear / Simple CHARTS), how the hell their stupid company has been performing ?
A picture tells 1000 words - but they prefer to use the 1000 words.
I long ago became so damned frustrated with it all that just pure simple stock charts were what I decided to rely upon.
Let OTHERS sort thru all their corporate crap - their Financial Wizardry and Management discussions, their Year End Financials Webcasts, etc., where all they ever do is insist that their the "Global Leaders".
Me I'll just go by - What THE MARKET is saying - By the Auctioning that's taking place regarding their share price !
This from 1 week earlier eh ? : (had the (above) line defined as a Target)
Annual results webcast next Monday afternoon in the US (Tuesday morning in Australia).

FYI -
Bought a few more to lower my average
No one wants nuthin' to do with commodities (in case ya' haven't noticed BJ).....
And being Canadian - I'm quite accustomed to that status....
Nobody ever WANTS TO invest in Toronto......
They'll only do so if they're FORCED TO.
Americans just LOVE to HATE EVERY commodity and would MUCH rather invest into shoe stores or car parts even candles or what have you, etc.
But iron ore ?.....ForGET it - or Lithium ?.....ForGet it....Or ANYTHING to DO with mining ?.....For get it !
Chipotle Grills ?.....Yes ! ......No problem with that !
Sketchers Runners ?....Yup !.....You BET !

A couple of corrections and one addition to post #1045:
-Ownership is as follows: 66.5% Orocobre, 25% Toyota and 8.5% JEMSE.
-My understanding is that the hydroxide plant will only be built in Japan to produce lithium hydroxide for better product diversification (I.e., not only lithium carbonate but also lithium hydroxide).
In addition, I should have mentioned that Orocobre currently produces 2 lithium carbonate grades:
1) Battery grade or Purified product at >99.5% pure (often at >99.9% purity thanks to the high purification circuit).
2) Lithium carbonate or Prime Product at >99% for other industrial uses from the regular production circuit or Prime circuit.
The following two excerpts from the latest June quarterly report explain the products in more detail, and specify that these two products comply with their corresponding uses without any additional processing for their respective markets:
“Since operations commenced Olaroz has developed a strong customer base of >70 customers who have tested and accepted the high grade Purified and Prime products. The Purified product regularly tests at 99.9% lithium carbonate and is sold to battery and cathode end users. The Prime product regularly tests at 99% lithium carbonate and is sold to a variety of technical and industrial end users. Neither of these products require any additional processing for their respective markets.”
and
“Olaroz produces high quality lithium carbonate chemicals for both the battery and industrial markets. It is the only operation in the world with an integrated purification circuit that permits it to produce, if desired, 100% battery grade lithium carbonate (+99.5%) on site.”
