Again, good news for Alkane

Alkane, during those days of "rare earth wars" made a top on 15th April 2011.
It reached a 2,605 pps (in australian dollars)
so, we have seen nothing to get excited about YET!

" ... Rare earths are a group of 17 chemical elements which have properties key for the production of everything from satellites to jet engines.
China last year produced 78 per cent of the world’s rare earths, according to researchers at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The US relies upon it for up to 80 per cent of its imports.
The threat to use China’s rich supply as leverage in the conflict has contributed to sharp losses in US stocks and sliding long-term bond yields.
But the impact of such an export freeze would have military as well as economic implications.

"... EARNING MORE FOR LESS
As volumes shipped out of China have dwindled, the value of trade has soared. December’s tonnage was down by almost two-thirds from December 2009, but the value rose four-fold to $309.2 million on a free-on-board basis.
That has helped meet other goals of China’s policy of controlling exports of rare earths and other minor metals — to raise their price internationally and lure more secondary industry to set up shop in China.
The value of 2010 exports soared to $939.7 million, three times the $310.1 million China earned from the trade in 2009.
December’s exports were valued at an average of $65,257 per metric ton, the culmination of five months of rapid price increases. In July, the value per metric ton was $14,405 but that figure rose by an average of more than $10,000 in successive months. ..."

The potential of what MAY come is just HUGE ;)
Right now it looks like it is moving on very thin volume. That volume spike at the beginning of December came with a minimal price change. Either, as you say, something is afoot, or, the algos have finally reached down to fiddle with insignificant companies which have little to no trading volume.
So what has moved Alkane so much? Last from the company I find is the Dec 6 reply to the ASX exchange that it knew of no reason for the big intraday move then . . . but it appears to continue.
This has all the markers that something is afoot.
Alkane has been seriously underperforming when compared with the likes of Great Western, Lynas, and STans.
Still trading in the buck range for the past 3 months, give or take. But volume is very low. i think it will take either the next REE or PM panic to get her moving back upwards again.
Looks like trading in range is where ALKF wants to be for the present.
Up nearly 10 percent in a single day. Something going on under the surface?
don't get to greedy I suppose - only buy what you think price can handle regards volume - my be $10k max?
kiwi
Thanks for the chart. My only question is that with a volume (in the US as low as this stock has, does a technical analysis actually mean anything?
Well, the market dip of the past week has taken us below the support we were riding. Over the past days, we are now again at the same point. Question is whether it resumes as a support, or converts to resistance.
Looks like things have been trading in range for the past month or so, with decreasing volume.
Price is up month over month, so the ride upward continues.
Nice pop yesterday. We could use a few more like that to get back on track.
Looks like Alkane is firming up around the $2.00 zone. My theory is that it resumes upward when some more news hits. Wait and see, I suppose.
Up another 12 cents in overnight trading in Australia. Nice. Very nice.
Alkane article in The Australian

From: The Australian

IAN Chalmers set out in the 1990s to pursue any metal that could make money, but within a single geographic area.
That turned out to be the part of NSW around the city of Dubbo, and now Alkane Resources (ALK) is a multi-commodity play that can be run from one project office.
The project that has lit a fire under its share price of late is the Dubbo zirconium-rare earth-niobium deposit, mainly for its rare earths but the others are not to be sniffed at.
It has been a long haul for Chalmers. A quick check shows this writer was reporting on the zirconium-rare earth play back in the late 1990s, and only now is it getting close to the final lap. And the smell of cashflow is in the air with one of Alkane's gold projects gearing up.
Alkane has been getting attention not only for being one of only three rare-earth plays on which production is planned in the next three years -- the others being Lynas Corp (LYC) and Arafura Resources (ARU) -- but its deposit contains a healthy level of the more valuable heavy rare earths, including dysprosium and terbium. In mid-March, those elements were fetching $US517 a kilogram and $US810/kg respectively, compared with light rare earths lanthanum and cerium at $US96/kg.
Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar.
End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.
Less attention has been paid to the other Alkane projects. There are the wholly owned Tomingley gold project and the joint-venture with Newmont Mining at McPhillamys with an inferred resource of 2.96 million ounces of gold and 60,000 tonnes of copper.
During the week, Alkane also announced the discovery northeast of Wellington, NSW, of a copper-gold target. To illustrate the degree to which the Dubbo zirconium, rare earth and niobium project dominates investor attention, last month RBS Equities analysts carved up their ALK valuation of $2.74 a share, attributing $2.31 of that to Dubbo and just 2c to Tomingley.
RBS saw Tomingley as marginal and needing a sustained gold price above $US1500 an ounce to justify development, along with a substantial hedging position as protection.
Now gold is above $US1500/oz and during the week Alkane said it had mandated Credit Suisse to arrange a project loan for Tomingley of $45 million and hedge 163,000oz of future production.
The only real problem is the intention of the new NSW government to abolish the planning provision (Part 3A) that gives the minister rights to override council decisions for major projects. Both Dubbo and Tomingley have been approved under Part 3A, but local councils support both projects anyhow. It just could mean a few months of extra delay

News out tonight. Can be found on the Australian stock exchange site. Will try to get text out of the PDF and put it up here later.
That's a great find. If only their conclusions come true.
Thanks
Wish I had found this sooner. Chart looks really strong. Where you located ?
Welcome to Alkane. Been in this one since under a buck. Has been a pleasant ride. Given the trend in both REEs and PMs, I figure I'll hang onto this one for a while longer yet.
Not a bad ride to be on, this one. About a double over the past month, not much stomach churning, and only 7 followers on I-H.
I don't usually say such things, but, Whee!
Looks like ALKEF is up again in overnight trading in Aussieland. As I post this, it is up 16 cents per share. If the US trading carries through, tomorrow should be another good day for Alkane shareholders.
You can join me as a charter member of the "I woulda, I shoulda, I coulda" club. Sometimes I buy a sure thing that ain't, and sometimes I avoid a shakey looking one that explodes upward to heavenly glory.
Its all part of the game.
Man Hock, when I saw those gold reserves, even if they stay in the ground, this had buy written all over it. 2 months later and 2.20... But buy I didn't...
Currently up another $0.11 in overnight trading in Australia. Certainly looks like this one is continuing up into fresh territory.
Looks like the streak may continue for another day. At this moment, in overnight trading in Aussieland, Alkane is up another 11 cents.
If the US trading follows the overnight action in Alkane, today should be rather pleasing to shareholders.
If you look past the short term up-and-downs, ALkane has done about two and a half times in the past 6 months. With its feet in both PMs and REEs, I think it has a bit more running room yet.
