Longs? Anyone who bought in after ZIOP paid Anderson $57.5 million in shares for the partnership deal....not so good. Although those who bought in back in October of 2014 around $2 or $3, they'd still be up...although they're probably kicking themselves if they didn't take any profits at $10+

XON shareholders who got free divy shares, they're obviously green at any price, although they too are probably kicking themselves if they didn't dump and take the money.

Who's buying right now? My guess is its probably short players covering to crystalize some awesome gains. And with all the uncertainty right now over the trial and the need for further financing on top of the ambulance chasers investigating....Overall a good time to cover off imo, when demand should be very low.

Who knows...they may just reload and short more going forward, maybe even try and pump it back up.

ZIOPHARM Provides Update Regarding Phase I Study of Gene Therapy Candidate Ad-RTS-hIL-12 in Brain Cancer

BOSTON, July 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ZIOPHARM Oncology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ZIOP) today provided an update regarding the Company's ongoing multicenter Phase I study of Ad-RTS-hIL-12 + orally administered veledimex in recurrent or progressive glioblastoma (GBM) or grade III malignant glioma.

The patient death resulting from intracranial hemorrhage in the third cohort of this Phase I study was deemed unrelated to study drug following the receipt and analysis of additional information by the sponsor and the study's Safety Review Committee. As with all study events, the Company expects to report the data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in accordance with the study's protocol and applicable regulations. As previously announced, the study remains open for enrollment. The Company expects to provide further updates on the progress of the study, including longer-term survival follow up, at an appropriate meeting later this year.

Of course you conveniently left out the definition that applied...But with ZIOP longs I'm used to seeing selective reasoning being used, longs only see what they want to see instead of taking in the full picture, its why so many paid $8+

I referred to their therapy as "questionable"....which means exactly what you said...their drug, "either will or will not work". That's what questionable means...if I thought their therapy wouldn't work I would have expressed that view...like you I don't know.

And it won't be proven one way or another in a phase I trial, even if they ever get to the 48 patients cited at clinicaltrials.gov.

How long did they know of this death before notifying shareholders? According to news being released it already quashed a $50,000,000 share offering the day before the news hit....Why wasn't the news released Thursday?

ZIOP's drug either will or will not work. We will learn in time. You seem to have decided it will not. That's fine, but posting FUD is not.

One patient...

Charles Peacock...he was diagnosed back in April of 2012 according to his blog. So he'd already beaten the odds when he finally enrolled in Ziopharm's trial, although he had to go back on chemo which had succeeded previously in shrinking his tumor...Maybe the chemo is the reason for his survival, and maybe it has nothing to do with Ziopharm's questionable CART therapy.

Glioblastoma is a very aggressive form of cancer. There is no known cure. You get it, you die, sooner or later and usually sooner. The patients in this trial have exhausted other options and this is their only hope. They are all medically fragile. Any trial with patients this sick is going to have SAEs and deaths. Deceased patients are autopsied to determine cause of death. If the determination is that the death was not related to the treatment-then it wasn't. It's not ZIOP who determines this.

The patient who recently died will be autopsied and the outcomes will be announced.

The only thing that needs to be avoided around here is your posts.

It seems to me they're more concerned with their share price than with science....touting survival rates in a phase I trial designed to test safety...ugh, pathetic. And now its bitten them in the arse....

They want the Homer Simpson investor types to think their therapy is the reason patients are still alive imo....but when (sadly) patients die in the trial...oh, that has nothing to do with the treatment.

I wonder how long they knew about the most recent death before releasing the news? Saying "we just found out" is very non-specific...."just" a day ago, a week ago....How long ago.

Why use fuzzy words when you don't have to? Would straightforward language scare off investors? Is that the problem?

It all depends on what happens. It seems like Dr Cooper thinks the FDA will agree to a registrational trial in GBM if the patients live for another few months. Then there is the combo Anti PD-1 GBM trial as well. We should know what is happening with both these in the next few months and if they both get the go-ahead then this should help. It will be interested to see what updates there will be on some of the other programs like the Sleeping Beauty system, off the shelf NK cells and IL-12 in breast cancer

I know some think UTIMCO was forced to sell by some mandate, but that's for shares distributed to a couple of funds, (PUF and GEF) not the license and incentive shares they received to "partner" with Ziopharm.

Do you have a link for this? Not that it matters....cancer in many cases is considered terminal, which by definition means it is incurable....However that doesn't mean it can't be treated and that chemo is sometimes successful in shrinking tumors.

It has nothing to do with the stock.

You must be aware that Insurance companies will often not cover the the newest or most expensive drug first. The patient has to fail older, less expensive drugs or procedures first.

Back in 2012 some guy published a blog and Ziopharm put out a PR that refuted some blogger's claims. Okay....fair enough, if they thought the information was false its their right, besides it might have hurt their share price and a lot of the compensation they pay to senior people is stock based...Kewl.

But now you have this slimeball RobCos posting about a #miracle and putting up stuff about a clean MRI for a guy who failed all his other treatments, totally made up stuff....

And what do we hear from the company? Crickets....but then maybe they like having people thinking they've got a proven #miracle cure or something, that sure couldn't hurt the share price.

Only refute social media postings if it is negative, but if the lies are bullish...hey that's kewl.

No outlandish claims, negative or positive. ZIOP is running out of cash, that's a fact, fully disclosed in their filings. This ph I trial they just PR'd the results about is estimated to have a study completion date of December 2018, a full year after their filings say they expect to be out of cash.

Long investors think that a partnership, a merger or a buyout will come to the rescue before the cash register is empty, and maybe it will be....that's speculation but it isn't fact.

No question ZIOP is an amazing trading vehicle....But as a long term hold I see it as being massive risk and grossly overvalued based on the fundamentals. Weak cash position, paying big bucks to guys like the CEO, and nothing in late stage development.

Anyone who follows ZIOP in social media has likely come across the user ID RobCos or pharmamaven....one in the same person. This guy is posting blatantly false info about the PH I trial and a blogger who is taking part in the trial, claiming that this patient failed other drug treatments when they succeeded in shrinking his tumour, and saying the guy now has a "clean" MRI which sadly he does not.
