Even more awkward...
... biased moderation on a board that pretends to be a source of community derived Due Diligence.
Hell no! They lose their bowels every 10 minutes!! Sometimes the chickens will hide behind the screen door and sneak in, and drop an egg somewhere. Or the hens will jump up on your lap and make a "purring" type noise, and lay an egg. Strangest thing ever.
But yeah, they are the weird dino-duck, that are apparently not even related with the duck species, and aren't able to mate with other breeds. They take some getting used to, I thought they were too ugly...Ha ha
Those are the most seriously awkward birds I've ever seen - lol.
Do you allows yours to come in like in the video or are they mostly outside?
Not so much. Sometimes they'll fly up on the roof and bask in the sun for a few hours. The only time I've ever really seen them fly is when a dog runs into the yard. They might go up into a tree or fly a couple houses over (which is a long ways). And then walk all the way back!
I didn't want Muscovys at first but my other half couldn't stand the quacking. Only duck that can't quack, and gets excited to see you when you come home or have food and shakes their tail feather.
Can they make longer flights or is that video pretty much the extent of the flying they do?
I saw that too! Mine just shred holes in food and 💩everywhere.
I have some ducks. The drakes (males) will swallow them hole. Seeing them fly is something else, as some weigh close to 18 pounds with a wing span of 6-7 feet.
If you put a litter box in their cage--I used one made for ferrets, and ferret litter--they'll use it to pee in. If they're outside the cage, they'll go back in to pee. Or you could put another litter box in their play area. Just don't use any old litter; the kind made for cats is too coarse for them.
They aren't as fastidious about their poop. Sometimes they'll poop in the litter box, and sometimes not. But they poop hard little balls that are easy enough to vacuum up.
You could, of course, always try to teach them. They're very open to learning things, and quite smart and affectionate. Just keep an eye on them when they're out; they chew things. Early on, I had one who could snip through a modem cord like a pair of scissors. I got a lot of practice with wire stripping and reattaching.
I had no idea this was a thing with rodents. Just curious if they had a room instead of a cage, could they be litter trained? You mentioned they would pee in them but what about poop in them?
We took care of a couple of classroom rats over the summer once and I really enjoyed them. But we had an extra room that we weren't using at the time and let the kids let them out of their cage fairly often. They weren't in any way litter trained so that was a big lesson for them.
Some were more... passionate about it than others. Most don't like things in their cage to be moved, so if you do that when you clean, they'll immediately move them back. I did have one who was a real housekeeper. He'd race around getting things just so, while his brother would sit and watch.
He'd also arrange things when he was out of the cage. If I gave him 10 treats while he was playing on the bed, he'd line them, and make sure his brother didn't mess them up.
And they're happy to pee in a litter tray.
This is super cute - a mouse tidies his work bench each night! @janice shell Did your rats used to tidy?

It's been my favorite Halloween song for years.
Cat Country 96 in Allentown PA used to play it every All Hallows Eve.
Stay safe.
That was great! Having lived in the South much of my life I'm surprised I've never heard it before. Thanks for sharing. :)
