JUHL on some really nice GOV. STIMULUS GRANT....over $1.4 MIL....Hammer
Juhl Wind, Inc. Announces Receipt of $1.4 Million U.S. Stimulus Grant for the Winona County Wind Project
0 0 0
WOODSTOCK, Minn., Jan. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Juhl Wind Inc. (OTCBB: JUHL), the Leader in Community Wind Power, today announced the receipt of approximately $1,413,000 in U.S. Stimulus Grant funds for its recently completed $4.8 million Winona County Wind Project in Winona County, MN. The grant was issued by the U.S. Treasury Department in accordance with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The proceeds of the grant primarily went toward payment of construction costs for the project, now owned by the company's Juhl Renewable Assets Inc. subsidiary.
The Winona County Wind project was completed and put into commercial operation in the fourth quarter 2011. It is one of six wind farm projects that Juhl Wind has completed in the past 24 months, together these properties represent over $150 million in project development. It is one of the first sites in North America to utilize two Unison, direct-drive wind turbine generators – a leading technology based on an advanced, gearless system. The project was developed and constructed by Juhl Energy Development Inc., the wholly-owned, development subsidiary of Juhl Wind Inc., with initial project participation by the Winona County Economic Development Authority.
"We are very proud to once again have another one of our projects successfully participate in the U.S. Stimulus Grant program," stated Dan Juhl, Chairman and CEO of Juhl Wind, Inc. "The U.S. Stimulus program has provided very important support for the continuing growth of our Community Wind projects throughout the Midwestern United States. Community-owned wind farms not only deliver a totally clean and low-cost energy resource, but also help truly secure our U.S. energy future by keeping the ownership of this resource in the hands of American farmers and landowners. To us at Juhl Wind, this seems like the right place for our tax dollars to be put to work. As a result of this program, we have been able to get our community wind projects financed in the face of a very difficult recession, creating tangible short and long-term economic development in the heart of rural America. Accordingly, we are pleased to have created construction jobs and permanent work while at the same time helping to secure our energy future."

OTHM - news out - Oriens' Hotel PURE Gears up for Big Announcements in New Year, 2012
Oriens Travel&hotel Mgmt (PN) (USOTC:OTHM)
Today : Tuesday 22 November 2011
Oriens Travel and Hotel Management Corp. (OTC:OTHM.PK) www.OriensCorp.com, operator of the Hotel PURE brand (www.HotelPURE.com) announced today that it is gearing up for its first major shareholder address and conference call of 2012.
"We are not the same outfit we were a few years back," stated Mr. Ken Chua, President and CEO of Oriens Travel and Hotel Management Corp. "There is a reason why the portfolio of properties flagged, operated and/or managed under our Hotel PURE brand have increased an average of 238% per year from the time of our first flag in late 2007 to year end 2010; 2011 and 2012 seem to be on target to keep pace."
Currently, the Hotel PURE brand has acquired and integrated 20 hotel properties year-to-date. This places the number of properties operating under Oriens' brands 52 and counting, according to management.
Mr. Chua continued, "At our core, we are a technology company which happened upon the hotel flagging industry. This 'happening' was one part necessity, one part market opportunity. A down and struggling economy – under performing hotel market – gave us a hole to slide through. But, it is our roots in internet technology and marketing that gave us our edge with hotel property owners then; continues to do so even more today. In 2012, as it appears to us, we may have two really fast horses in the race."
Management suggests that its technology and hotel marketing savvy (internet) doesn't simply provide an edge, but more or less a sledge hammer to knock down unsuspecting doors. While there has been no hint from executives of how Oriens plans to further explore its technology – which has allowed properties to see sale increases of as much as 37% within 90 days of joining the Hotel PURE brand – the "dots" may ultimately connect and point to the company bulling in on a very lucrative and trending technology market.
Ken Chua concluded, "Our New Year's opening shareholder address and conference call will indeed set the tone for what we anticipate to be the beginning of an overall growth rate far greater than what we have experienced so far. But as Steve Jobs once said, 'you can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards.' We can only hope the markets are intuitive enough not to wait until 'then' to make sense of all of our dots."
No date has been set for the release of the Shareholder Address and/or Conference call. Management however suggests, both are likely to occur during February, 2012. The proposed events speak to the company's past declaration and commitment to transparency by communicating with shareholders through various means such as the corporate blog, email updates, news letters, etc.
About Oriens Travel & Hotel Management Corp. (www.orienscorp.com) (PinkSheets:OTHM) engages in the operation of hotels and resorts primarily in the United States and Central America under the Hotel PURE brand. The company also operates Friendly Reservations Online, a proprietary and sophisticated online booking system designed to execute reservations capture through Hotel PURE consumer facing websites, as well as individual hotel websites operated by Oriens on behalf of hotels branded under the Hotel PURE brand. Invest in women
Commentary: Women need capital, training, access
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (MarketWatch) — In the developing world, women have a critical stake in survival. And it turns out that investing in women is a good bet for a number of reasons.
“We know that women are critical to economic growth and community stability,” the organization Business for Social Responsibility says in a report, Investing in Women’s Economic Empowerment. “Research has also shown that women earning an income are more likely than men to invest in the education, nutrition, and health of their children. Women are also more likely to save and contribute to broader livelihood improvement in their communities. These contributions are especially relevant in developing countries where women represent an increasing force behind social and economic development.”
Women in these countries are in dire need of access to capital, business training, access to markets, and access to technology and infrastructure.

Myanmar's hidden capital in view
Take a look at Myanmar's new capital, Naypyitaw. The city used to be largely off limits to Western visitors, but it's opening up as Myanmar's leaders look for more acceptance from the outside world. WSJ's Patrick Barta reports.
Considering that 70% of the world’s hungry are women and that two-thirds of the 750 million illiterate adults are women, investing in women can create a major social impact. Besides, the ensuing financial benefits are robust.
Many impact investment funds single out women-themed investments. And certainly there are plenty of women-owned enterprises listed on investment platforms such as Kiva.org and Microplace.com.
Take this example from Kiva: Thirty-year-old Norovsuren lives with her daughter and disabled brother in Uvurhangai Province, Mongolia. Having started her garment retailing by selling socks in the streets in 1999, she now owns two counters in the province’s biggest market. Well-known and well-experienced, Norovsuren is a sharp and hardworking woman who says, “I started my business from scratch. I worked hard to go this far.” Now that winter is approaching, she needs warmer clothes to sell and is requesting $1,950 to buy more garments.
It’s obvious the individual effect an investment can have, but with women at the helm it seems the social impact is even greater.
Meanwhile, Maplecroft, the U.K.-based risk analysis firm, is releasing a new Women’s and Girl’s Rights Index, which assesses the protection of human rights, such as sexual violence, discrimination, trafficking and sexual exploitation, in 197 countries.
The index reveals that the rights of women and girls are at “extreme risk” in just over 40% of the countries assessed (88 in all), while only 5% rank in the low-risk category.
The 10 countries posing most risk are Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, DR Congo, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Burundi, Haiti and Nigeria. Many important emerging economies are also classified as “extreme risk,” including Philippines, China, Russia, Indonesia, India, and Turkey.
At the opposite end of the scale, only 5% of countries rank in the low-risk category, including: Denmark, Belgium, Sweden, Canada, and New Zealand. However, even in these countries, some issues persisted, including honor-related crimes and forced marriage.
The index also shows minor improvements for the protection of women and girls globally. Fewer countries, 144 compared to 156 last year, ranked in the “extreme” and “high risk” categories, representing an 8% annual decrease. However, according to Maplecroft, this only reflects a minor improvement and widespread violence and discrimination continues to be a major issue throughout the emerging and developing economies.
Complicity with the abuse of women’s and girls’ rights in fast-growing emerging economies pose particular risks to global companies, as this is where they must do business in order to flourish, Maplecroft notes. These economies include: Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, China, Egypt, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia, India, and Turkey, all of which are rated “extreme risk” in the WGRI.
Risks of complicity in violations committed by state security forces or other actors in these countries include sexual violence, discrimination in employment, child labor, trafficking and sexual exploitation, Maplecroft reports.
“Achieving gender equality is a basic human right and a crucial part of development,” states Maplecroft analyst Siobhan Tuohy-Smith. “Responsible businesses can play an important part by identifying and mitigating these risks in their supply chains through the monitoring of human rights and instigation of due diligence processes. They can also actively work with civil society, international organizations and governments to support the delivery of projects advancing and protecting women’s and girl’s human rights.”
Engendering women’s rights can begin with investing in women-owned businesses.

10 cool holiday tech gifts for under $100
Stealth iPhone power supply, computer pens, WiFi movie streamer
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Electronic gadgets are huge holiday sellers but it’s hard to find really cool stuff for $100 or less. Most of the popular items such as iPads and laptops cost considerably more.
With a half-nod toward thriftiness in these tough economic times, here are some gifts to consider that won’t cost more than a C-note.
See the full MarketWatch Special Report: Holiday Gift-Giving Guide 2011.
uNu battery case for iPhones ($35 for the Power DX-1700B model ). Are you constantly running out of juice? The uNu might be the answer. It’s a nifty device that protects your iPhone from damage — and recharges a dead battery. That’s because the uNu is a battery pack shaped like a cover.
Beyond Talk wireless plan ($35 a month). Want iPhone capabilities without iPhone costs? Sprint-owned Virgin Mobile has the best-value plan among the major carriers. Beyond Talk allows unlimited text and Internet. The catch: Voice minutes are limited to 300 and customers have to pay full price for a phone. Still, the plan is great for teens who love to text and for adults who use the Web much more than they talk. Android phones ($100 and up) can be used to check the weather, catch a bus, find movie times, search for nearby stores. Most also include GPS and provide maps and navigation. Also available at Best Buy.
Klipsch Image S4 headphones ($79 and up). This new classic is one of the best deals around for quality portable headphones . Looks and sounds much better than the junky earbuds that come with most players. A new version, the S4A , allows users to control their Android phones through a switch on the headphone wire. A similar version already exists for the iPhone. So leave your phone in your pocket. For boys and girls check out the Skullcandy INK’d Earbuds . At just $14 — no need to worry bout kids losing them — these solid-sounding earbuds come in nearly 20 colors.
The Kindle. The newest, smallest and cheapest Kindle yet is just $79, weighs less than 6 ounces and fits into a backpocket. It’s a great time to get a Kindle because it now can be used to check out books from thousands of local libraries. Users do have to accept some “screensaver” ads, however. Not to be outdone is the Nook Simple Touch by Barnes & Noble. The cheapest touchscreen version costs $99 and “has no annoying ads,” the company says. It is 1.5 ounces heavier than the smallest Kindle, however.
Livescribe Smartpen (starting at $100). Scribble your notes and drawings on special white paper and then upload your work to a computer with this device. The Smartpen is fatter than a typical writing instrument, but people who take lots of notes swear by Livescribe. Oh, the pen can also record a lecture while you take notes. Software to transcribe notes into editable text is sold separately.
Audioengine W2 ($99). Send music from an iPod, iPhone or iPad via WiFi to a stereo with this small adapter. The Audioengine W2 got good reviews when it first came out, but after a price drop, the device can now be had for under $100. Audioengine calls the W2 the “dockless dock.” It will work anywhere in the house.
Roku 2 wireless movie streamer ($50 and up). These fist-sized Wi-Fi devices connect easily to a TV and enable viewers to download HD-quality movies or music from popular services such as Nexflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon and Pandora. Lots of devices these days can perform similar tasks, but Roku does it with smaller, cheaper hardware. The mid-priced Roku 2 HD player might offer the best value.
Vizio sound bar ($98). Most built-in speakers for glossy flat-screen TVs sound dull and tinny compared to true home theaters. If you don’t want to shell out for pricy speakers or clutter up your room, check out the growing number of soundbars like the Vizio VSB200 . These speakers are long and narrow and sit unobtrusively in front or below a TV. They deliver excellent sound for their size and even do a decent job mimicking surround sound.
Monoprice and Accessories4less – These are the Radio Shacks of the Internet age. No need to spend a bundle on fancy name-brand cables in a box store that cost almost as much as Bluray player. These online audio-video sites sell all kinds of good stuff cheap — HDMI cables, speaker wire, digital-audio connections, speakers and even refurbished receivers from major manufacturers such as Denon. Everything you need to set up your home theater is here. A good HDMI cable, for example, costs a few bucks. Your local retailer might charge as much as $90.
Smartphone apps. Here’s a gift for yourself. Thousands of software applications are available on iPhones and now Android devices that open up a world of possibilities. Some are free, others cost a few dollars. Be imaginative when searching the Apple app store or Android Market . Apps can be used to lock doors, for instance, or change the thermostat via a wireless home network. A growing number of apps allow users to control network-connected TVs and stereos from brands such as Samsung and Pioneer. In some cases the phone apps are easier to use than the original remotes.

Curaxis Pharmaceutical Corporation Management to Meet With Shareholders
RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Timothy R. Wright, Chairman and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Curaxis Pharmaceutical Corporation ("Curaxis" or the "Company') (OTCQB:CURX.PK - News), announced today that the new management team and newly installed board of directors (the "Board") will be meeting with the Company's shareholders this week. The Company has scheduled its annual shareholders' meeting to be held in Cary, North Carolina on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Not only is this the first shareholders' meeting for the Company but it is also the first opportunity for the Board to meet with its shareholder base.
On June 27, 2011, the Company announced changes to the Board and its executive management team to better position the Company for its next phase of growth and development. Specifically, two executive officers and co-founders of the Company resigned along with three independent directors. Six new directors were appointed to the Board and Mr. Wright was appointed as the Interim Chief Executive Officer. The new Board has a wealth of experience and comprehensive knowledge of life sciences, operations and strategic management in the area of pharmaceuticals. In addition, the newly appointed Board members have significant experience in the necessary industry arenas to execute the Company's business plan on an accelerated basis.
Mr. Wright commented, saying, "Aside from dealing with transitional items, the new leadership team has been working diligently since June on advancing the Company's therapeutic platform in clinical trials and firming up our intellectual property position. We believe that a partner company with neuroscience depth could leverage and capitalize on our existing and completed preclinical and clinical work in Alzheimer's. Our efforts are focused on finding a strong development partner. Alzheimer's disease continues to be one of the world's largest unmet medical needs and we are optimistic that our therapeutic platform could modify the progression of the disease in diagnosed patients and also complement current symptomatic treatments available."
About Curaxis Pharmaceutical Corporation
Curaxis is an emerging specialty pharmaceutical company with a hormone drug product candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and multiple cancers. Curaxis' therapeutic platform is based on the hypothesis that many diseases of aging may be caused by age-related changes in the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. The HPG axis is a hormonal endocrine feedback loop that controls development, reproduction and aging in animals. This drug development platform is built on the premise that hormones associated with this feedback loop are beneficial early in life, when they promote growth and development, but are harmful later in life when the mechanism for feedback is compromised, thereby leading to disease processes, including pathologies associated with Alzheimer's disease.
