Geron Is Ripe For A Short Squeeze
Jun. 29, 2015 10:02 AM ET | 2 comments | About: Geron Corporation (GERN), Includes: JNJ
Disclosure: I am/we are long GERN. (More...)
Summary
Short interest in Geron has risen in the last two months.
At the same time, short ratio is also very high, making Geron ripe for a short squeeze.
A short squeeze could be triggered by an update on Geron’s plans to acquire oncology products.
Short interest in Geron Corporation (NASDAQ:GERN) has risen sharply since the company reported its Q1 results and provided an update on April 30th. Short interest has risen almost 8% between April 30th and June 15th. But so has the days to cover or short ratio. With two upcoming catalysts, this makes Geron ripe for a short squeeze.
According to data from NASDAQ, a total of 25,479,050 shares of Geron were shorted on April 30th, 2015, with short ratio at 8.72. Average daily share volume at the time was 2,919,707. On April 30th, Geron reported its Q1 results and provided an update on its collaboration with Janssen (NYSE:JNJ). The company also announced that it will reduce its workforce in the wake of the Janssen agreement. On May 15th, the number of shorted shares rose to Average daily volume has also come down sharply from almost 3 million at the end of April to 2.14 million. The decline in volume is a bit surprising as the company has held a conference call in this period and also imetelstat has been granted an Orphan Drug Designation by the FDA in MF. The conference call with shareholders was held in May, which I discussed here. Although Geron did address some of the questions that I had raised in a previous article, some questions remain unanswered. I also tried to interview Dr Ayalew Tefferi, who is very relevant to Imet's MF program - but no response from the doctor yet. Geron also did not shed any light on plans to acquire new oncology products. Also, not much was discussed on the '615 patent.
Having said that, the second half could become livelier for Geron and its shareholders. Indeed, there are at least two upcoming catalysts that would be of concern to short sellers. Janssen is on track to start the Phase 2 200-patient MF study. By the end of this year, Janssen is expected to commence the MDF Phase 2 study. But what will possibly trigger a short squeeze in my opinion is an update on Geron's plans to acquire oncology products. I believe that it would make sense for long-term investors to add to their position in Geron and take some quick profit from a short squeeze.

Attached are $XLE's top 8 holdings. XLE is an oil and gas company ETF. Oil related company stocks have been trying to recover from 52-week lows. On 4/16 charts showed some breaks through resistances but then bad Greece debt news hit 4/17 to cause most equities to fall. I'm keeping these on watch for oil related recoveries.
$ATHX stem cell phase 2 trial results expected this weekend. Chart is showing $2.50 support and $3.30 resistance areas. Call volume has been great for an under $3 ticker.

$NVIVD was $3.24 on 3/26/15. Today it closed at $14.00 after a 1:4 reverse stock split. That would be $3.50 prior to split.
$NVIV, currently $NVIVD, completed its reverse split today. My favorite OTC QB MMJ ticker, related to $GWPH, is working to uplist to NASDAQ.

Hi, my screen name is HighLo and sometimes toohightoolo. For those traders who have developed a closer relationship my name becomes known. I've been investing in stocks for 10+ years. I started OTC penny stock trading Apr 13' and stock/ETF option trading 9/14'. My career has been in finance for 18+ years and I've had the pleasure in working for organizations in the private, public, government, and non-profit sectors. This diverse work history has given me a variety of experiences that fuel my passion for business and trading.
My goal while trading for consistent gains is to share my knowledge, experience, and skills for free. To share one must be open to communicating, interacting, and opening one's mind to the possibilities of future success. Trading for consistent gains takes work and dedication. A good trader doesn't develop overnight. I don't believe a good trader is born but rather forged through the experiences of loss and gains. Each of us has different goals, abilities, and experiences that once shared aid others in trading. I hope you'll take the trading journey with me.
Being a Fire Eater from a trading perspective means to take on high risk while utilizing skills to harness consistent gains. Why the group name? Being identified with a group helps aid teamwork IMO. Each trader can choose to trade alone, and let's not be disillusioned that each trader makes and is responsible for their own trades, but working with trading friends can increase knowledge, share experiences, save time in research and analysis, and provide the drive to keep pushing forward in difficult trading times.
I hope to foster an open mind towards trading. There are times when traders are out for themselves and employ scrupulous tactics to part you from your money. My hope is to not foster pumping nor bashing, so a quick definition of both:
Pumper
An individual who is PAID via some form of compensation to only discuss positive attributes of a trading vehicle. Not all compensation is disclosed.
Basher
An individual who is PAID via some form of compensation to only discuss negative attributes of a trading vehicle. Not all compensation is disclosed.
You may notice just a few words separate a pumper and a basher. My hope is to display facts and analysis and let each trader decide for themselves what to trade. I'm capable of providing in-depth, long winded, and massive posts about a trading suggestion with many chart and relevant images. For the sake of each trader's time, and my respect for your time, I generally try to post succinct posts of which to form a quick decision on. I trade stocks that are blue chips with dividends to OTC penny stocks, and stock/ETF options. My mere suggestion of an OTC ticker at times elicits illwill towards me and my reputation, but I hope it is known at this point that I'm not a pumper not basher. I'm not compensated by anyone, I don't own shares or option of most of my suggestions due to the volume of suggestions I have, and I provide all of my effort in the many forms for free.
Please keep iHub Fire Eater board posts to this dichotomy: No pumping or bashing with the hope of aiding another trader in earning consistent gains.

OTCMarkets Closing Report and Daily Dashboard
OTCMarkets offers two reports that I review during the day and after hours. Good day traders can follow % daily gainers and scalp a quick gain before the momentum fades. Swingers and more mid-term traders can view the Closing Report daily to collect tickers on consistent daily and weekly uptrends for a longer trade opportunity.
I generally focus on QB/QXs.

Townie- follow and you'll thank me later.
Townie has a history of finding bottom OTC stocks before the masses and paid promoters utter their first words. Seen a penny ticker on the OTC recently with fast uptrend? Townie was probably on the related board before other big traders.
$GERN looks like a great bio-tech under $5. The 2-year chart shows a fast gain from $1 to $5.50 from Jul to Oct 2014, and then a predictable $1 by $1 stair stepping uptrend from that big drop. GERN has decent option volume also.
I'm going to research it more and do a profile on here and Instagram.
Thanks sublover!
What do you think of the Fire Eater guidelines so far aero? Did I miss any? Trying to have a simplified guide to follow because we both know the list could get long. Glad to have you here as your option suggestions and technical analysis are great.
So many I know hold through ERs and then they get burned. No matter how much I research, apply fundamental analysis and news review to make an educated prediction of an ER result I still got a track record of less than 50% of predicting correctly.
Was $FLST even the first ticker symbol for that company? I remember that being one of my last lucky 7 in a row trades during my OTC gains streak.
How are you feeling now about iHub after your purge?
IMO we can make a board that follows tickers and options for gains. Trading is so much more than just OTC, and there's plenty of risk versus reward outside the OTC as well.
Lol yes, this is awesome. Holding through ER is an uncontrollable fire, I like it
Had to purge my whole Ihub account haha I had to suppress the revulsion from all the scams I was following. Remember FLST? apparently there was an RS *shocker*
GERN is a Bio Tech that I have been in for 3 years,the upside potential is tremendous and want to show you ZACKS new update here;
http://www.zacks.com/stock/news/169922/market-has-not-yet-noticed-potential-in-geron-gern-have-you
$UTX has had a volatile downtrend the past month as ER expectations have been lowered for the Qtr 1 ER scheduled 4/21/15. April news has been positive with news of partnerships and new contracts, so this past two quarters of lowered expectations is hopefully in the past.
News of prior litigation award being reversed on 4/7/15 May aid the future pps reversal. The chart is signaling sell on the 1-month perspective while showing signals of possible reversal on the 6-month chart.
Thanks. Yeah, a nice weekend. Hope yours was also.
HighLo,the Company SITO had toxic management and per last Q has sold out. Read this and let me know what you think. tia

Thx sublover! $SITO looks to have bounced from its dilution trends a few months back. I guess traders are waiting for juicy updates. Happy to sleep on it until current progress us shown.
Nice thread here HighLo and wanna give your board a long term sleeper stock ticker is SITO trading in the low .30's its fully reporting OTCQB with all DD starting here http://www.otcmarkets.com/stock/SITO/quote
Thank you, Gary. Hope your holiday was good.
Thank you pimping! I used to be another iHub alias but I can't discuss it lol.
I hope your holiday is great also. Looking forward to trading next week.

Interesting stop loss discussion:
Nick the Contrarian on stop losses
I've always been more a fan of re-evaluating my trade at a 20% loss point versus having an auto stop loss set up with my broker.
$JCP Thoughts
JCP doesn't hold a specific pps trend long. It broke a resistance of $8.25 on 3/31/15 and could reach the $9 area before being too overbought and falling. Support could re-form at $7.50 but for me the best support area is $6.75-$7 once a pull back begins.
JCP is a great swing trade IMO and that's why I put the 4/17/15 Call and Put option chains up.
$TSLA Thoughts
Rising wedges keep forming resulting in pps bounces in the short-term. The overall downtrend is apparent on the 6-month and 1-year charts. I did a write up Sunday I think about TSLA's trajectory on the stock cycle with denial now, a rise to "the normal" meaning going back to the latest high and then a fall not seen yet as a return to "the mean" stock pps occurs. All speculation of course.
The current rising wedge shows support of $180 and resistance at $200 or so. If TSLA rises I think $195 can be attained. If it starts to fall I think the $180 area could be seen and then a bounce back to $190, as annotated on the attached option chains for 4/17/15 expys.
$TWTR Thoughts
TWTR's chart is bullish and expect it to reach $154 by next week. The past two months shows when the pps candles touch above the upper Bollinger Band and CCI is overbought that TWTR slowly uptrends. Other chart indicators are signaling buy so I expect a slow uptrend into next week barring news.
I put up images of Calls and Puts to show 4/17/15 expys have a huge premium on Calls (like $7) and Puts are basically a gamble being valued at $.05 in strikes near the current TWTR pps. It seems most option traders think TWTR is only going up in the short-term. If TWTR was to tank those Put holders might bank...
