Correct. States grant health insurance companies the advantage of a local monopoly/cartel, why? Because the insurance companies aim to dominate these markets and lockout competition. It all goes back to insurance companies, special interests, lobbying and greed. The government is a conduit/middle man in all of this. As voters we have some control of the conduit, so there is hope. Still, the fundamental cause: greed.

Indeed. However, the free market harnesses greed/self interest to drive innovation. Those who do not want to fairly compete, pay the government to give them favors.

The answer is to use the free market to harness human greed/self interest. That is the only way for healthcare to be as cheap as cell phones.

A massive can of worms. What happens if a small clinical research company declares (w/proof) they have a "cure for cancer? or can treat CNS"?
