Important comparison of landfills here. There is only one waste to energy facility in Michigan. It is county owned and located in Kent County and with it is a 300 acre landfill in South Kent. The South Kent landfill is the same size as the Richfield landfill. So let's look at the numbers:
If you need a pencil...go get one..the 18mw facility sells electricity generating $5.7 million a year in revenues. Excluding the marketed recyclables, they bring in another $17 million in annual revenue in WTE and Landfill use. It is the same size landfill as Richfield. In 2011, the Richfield Landfill processed over 500,000 tons in the landfill. If one takes a conservative revenue estimate @ $20.00 per ton flat...and doubles the capacity of the WTE plant to say 35mw...that's a minimal of $20 million in annual revenues alone..........minimal!.....and that is just the first one!
