9:04 (Dow Jones) The very first quarterly dividend in the history of biotech giant Amgen (AMGN) is payable today, which means shareholders should get their checks soon. AMGN's board in July declared quarterly payout of 28c/share, after deciding earlier this year to begin paying dividends. At recent stock price of around $55 that amounts to a dividend yield of about 2%, which is lower than some large-cap pharmaceuticals but higher than the average yield for most biotechs (that would be zero). Shares off 2.2% in light premarket action. (peter.loftus@dowjones.com)
