sideeki -- true -- and all the damage, especially along the coast -- sorry, didn't mean to sound at all cavalier about any of that -- would have been much worse if it hadn't been for the amazing efforts to find and get to and rescue the stranded -- that one was ominous from really before it even got going -- winds were already sustained near 40 and gusting to 50 before the snow (at first, snow pellets that stung the face) even started -- so that 2 and 3 foot drifts had already formed by the time just the first inch or two had come down, stopping traffic in place, nothing folks could do -- thousands stranded just on Route 128 before they even fully grasped what was happening -- and then of course it got worse, much worse, very rapidly

the great storms pay no heed to little us -- have been part of the territory here since long before we came along, and will remain such long after we're gone

so where were you? -- I was lucky, then a student living right next to campus (and thus not needing to be, and not, out driving), in Cambridge

very fortunately indeed, that tornado I saw (which based on things not seen in the following virtually certainly was, at times, an F6, meaning max ground-level winds >318 mph)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnKY36sgfYw [I'm actually in the first part of this one (which I just found for the first time), dark car in the median is (was) mine, I'm the one on the right by the white minivan behind it]

didn't hit any developed areas and didn't kill anybody -- though it did cull about 2,000 head of cattle (some found ~20 miles from where they'd been originally) (. . .)
