Comcast, Charter, Cox and other telecom companies are nearing settlements with closely held UnifiedOnline’s ChanBond unit for 13 lawsuits filed in 2015 over patents on high-speed networking technology, according to court filings in one of the cases.
ChanBond and defendants “have executed a binding term sheet to resolve their disputes” and “are diligently working to effect settlement, but need additional time to complete the final steps," according to a joint notice filed under seal Wednesday and unsealed Thursday in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware
U.S. District Judge Richard G. Andrews signed an order to adjourn a jury trial in the Cox case on Thursday and stayed deadlines in the other cases until July 9th.
"We don't have any comments on this litigation or settlement at this time," a spokesperson said for Cox said Thursday via email.
A lawyer for Chanbond didn't respond immediately to requests for comment.
Jury trial for Cox, which was halted Tuesday, was first over patents in Delaware Federal Court since onset of covid 19 pandemic.
Chanbond claims involve 3 patents for transmitting data via multiple bonded transmission channels.
Remaining 12 trials -- who's defendants also include Cogeco's Atlantic Broadband, Charter's Brighthouse & Time Warner, Altice's Cablevision and Cequel, Cable One, Mediacom, RCN telecom, WaveDivision and WideOpen West were to be scheduled after the Cox trial.
