Hello 3Dcadman,

Welcome to the board.

Can someone tell me why Kraig Labs states (on their website) that it costs Bolt Threads over $30,000 to produce 1 kilogram of silk and states Kraig Labs can produce for less than $150 per kilogram. This new Forbes article states that Bolt Threads can produce 1 kilogram of silk for around $100 per kilogram now and $40 later down the road. Which is it correct.

Those are very good questions with real answers. Unfortunately, you probably won't get those answers by reading responses on this board. You will probably get a barrage of remarks calling Kim a liar and that $30k per kilo for protein is ridiculous and Bolt Threads can make it much cheaper. But you will never get any evidence or sources to support these claims.

If you want real answers to the costs associated with "their" technology, my advice to you is to read the pdf from this link:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/306253307_BioProcess_Design_and_Economics_2nd_Edition

It goes into depth about the costs associated with creating proteins in bioreactors. Also, I said "their" technology because Bolt Threads likes to say it is their platform, but the truth is, the process they use has been around for decades.

It's a lot of reading, but concentrate on the first few sections, and also the section beginning on 11-44.

I think you'll find out much more valuable info then what you can get from this board.
