Seems kind of sad that being in the Senate would give someone more to live for, than sharing the end of one's life with family and friends.

So what does one do? Just sit around and "share"? That would be kind of depressing. As I said, you'd just be sitting around waiting to die. McCain has always been an energetic person. Probably he'd rather keep busy, if he can, and hope for the best. And it's well-known that staying engaged with the world is good for sick people. Probably he'll live for months more, at the very least. Is he just supposed to sit around with his family, making strained conversation?

I'm sure people are different. Some would quit their jobs. That would be fine, but it doesn't seem to be what McCain wants. So let him make up his own mind.

And yes, I'd feel the same way if it were McConnell.

I would feel differently if it were Trump. A president may be called on to make important decisions that affect all Americans--and many others worldwide--at any time. He needs to be at his best, in case that happens. And so a sick president should be replaced by the VP as acting prez until he recovers or dies or leaves office. But that's an entirely different scenario.
