We owned pure-breed, AKC-registered, Pekingese, Shetland Sheep, back to 3 brother Pekes(2 were twins) continuously from 1967 to 1994 until we down-sized from large home to condo living. No dogs or animals since, and still alive at 80+ despite some CVDs on father’s side of family + T1-D since 1957. Exercise with or without dogs has always been part of lifestyle + regulated diet and weight. I question the study as not conclusive of longevity.
