Buffett also likes to see a "moat" protecting his investments from competition. SDRL has no moat. When Buffett has helped troubled firms he's often received newly created convertible preferred shares. See his BAC investment from around 2010. Warren's help doesn't come cheap.

Buffett has owned oil stocks such as Conoco. SDRL isn't his style. BTW, I mod IHUB's two Berkshire Hathaway boards.
