Where the Netgear article says, "that the router also supports remote network management through the Netgear Genie app.", I'm 99% sure that only means for the user to be able access his router remotely, not the telco. It's the same as the Linksys Smart WiFi. If I'm out of the house and time restrictions are on and my kid cannot play on his PS4, then he calls me and pleads his case and if he wins then I can remotely adjust the time restrictions from my cell phone, 'remote management'.

But this is not the same as the telco having end to end visibility of the network and the performance of the router, and the ability to change parameters on the router. I would flip-out if I found out that my service provider touched my Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, ASUS or any other flavor of router.

Netgear is supplying the end user and ownership and responsibility lays with the user. 5Barz are supplying the Telcos or Service Providers to help them improve their service offering.
