Gary, over the years I've come to know that you have a deep animas for Columbus, that I don't understand. I don't need to.

I don't think we should judge historical figures by today's standards. Our Founders are being attacked on that basis.

Columbus did not discover the Americas/Western Hemisphere. It was probably discovered by pre-historic Siberia natives, crossing a land bridge to Alaska. Also strong theories that pre-historic Polynesian sailors touched the West Coast of South America.

At this point, what difference does it make?

Vikings also came ashore. Maybe other Europeans that I don't know of. Theories abound.

The others came, they saw and died out or went back home. Columbus' Voyages Of Discovery are what opened the Western Hemisphere to European influence. To me, that's a good thing.

For those interested in European bad boys look at Cortez, Pissarro and the Portuguese brutes that brutalized Brazil until well into the nineteenth century.
