So much rides on this---for the company, for Ray's career and for what is much less likely---for many of us, if not most. I know first-hand from Bob and Neil how very much they wanted more for native Guineans, though. They cried openly when reflecting on how a massive oil discovery would reshape the people whom they dearly loved and respected. Bob was a higher-up when Saudi Arabia was becoming established as a/the oil major for decades to come. He envisioned Guinea as the mammoth of them all.
And now we peer down the stretch of dreams and hopes to say nothing of the impact of nostalgia.
I personally appreciate and greatly respect Ray's determination, unadorned by rampant fear. There's got to be some, I suspect we all know that. But he refuses to cry on the shoulders of others and that speaks strongly to me of his character. It tells me he's the right person to lead this effort.
Win or lose, we all stand to be rewarded in various ways. I'm excited.
