Giovanni, if you liked the Yankees or just recognized history being made, I'm sure you enjoyed it as much as I did.
The Yankees won the game 9-0. But man! what a tense 9th inning!
I'm not a sports nut but do enjoy them. Great memories for me:
* The Miracle on Ice. US amateur hockey players defeating Russia pros in the Olympics.
* Larsen's Perfect Game.
* Franco Harris' "Immaculate Reception" in the Super Bowl. I met Franco's sister, in 2001 when she was a contract administrator at Ft Dix N.J. Her office walls were covered with pictures of Franco.
* Doug Flute's game ending Hail Mary pass.
* The Four Minute Mile. Swede, Gunnar Haag held the record for the mile, at 4-01, since 1945. Roger Bannister ran the first sub 4 minute mile in 1953. A few months later Fellow Brit John Landy, broke Bannister's record.
In 1954, in Vancouver B.C., Bannister and Landy ran a two man head to head race. It was one of the early international telecasts of a sporting event.
In an exciting race, Bannister beat Landy. Both men ran sub 4 minute miles.
A good thing about being as old as I am are the memories.
