"Obviously some sense of efficacy could be derived from the safety looks."

What specifically would they be able to see, efficacy wise? Would they be able to see that X number of events came from the placebo arm and Y number of events came from the active arm? I don't understand how a safety check could be done without knowing such.

The entire point of this discussion started when someone here said that what if the 80% IA was added as a result of the safety committee seeing the data BEFORE the 60% analysis, and possibly giving a wink to Amarin?
