The last part of what you said is a valid issue. But it just accounts for a fraction of our mfg base.

Creating wealth around the world and bringing Hundreds of Millions of people out of poverty via free trade - which has been the case - and creating a larger pie for US companies to sell into as our market becomes progressively more saturated is where our long term priorities should be.

If you're actually concerned about kids, etc. overseas I'd suggest you should be for free trade - not protectionism.

A crime that TPP won't be passed - both for economic and geo-strategic considerations.

The mfg issue - except for the fractional nat'l security component you mentioned, which should include programming sourced to India etc. - is a red herring. Plays well for populist audience.
