Not sure where those numbers came from but they seem very wrong to me, the article says a typical family of 3 spends about $11,000 in public health care insurance, My wife and I made $106,000 between us last year and paid $24,000 in total taxes, I have a hard time believing $11,000 went to healthcare. As an Alberta resident I also don't pay any premium fee's out of pocket at all, I know I pay some in hidden taxes but nothing near those numbers, I also have a drug/dental plan at work that cost me $42.00/M that gives me 80% off prescriptions and a somewhat crappy dental plan

In Canada about 65% of healthcare $$ come from things like tobacco and alcohol taxes, we also have high taxes on our gas which help to pay for our roads. I'm not here to troll I'm just pointing out a system which seems to work worldwide. tax the stuff that makes people sick.

A little math says the U.S could raise almost $100 billion a year by taxing a bottle/pint of beer 25 cents, that's just beer folks!! someone else can do the math on other booze types and the big one...cigarettes.

Hell, lets put a 10 cent tax on each bullet for guns, maybe a trillion bucks could be raised. (sorry just joking) ;)
