More secure than other connections (with a link like this attached)

How it's pretty much "plug and play" on any aircraft, FAA certification not a requirement.
How the miltary would use it.
Strongly emphasize inflight text messaging capability.
Cheap cheap cheap. I believe there's a misconception among the airline community that satellite links are expensive. This is what I mean:
"your smart phone will have to log on to the aircraft data transfer unit via bluetooth or wifi and then text/voice connection can be made with the iridium satellite network or inmarsat geo stationary satellites, send the info via downlink to ground stations and retransmitted to destination.......of course this is all very, very expensive, so texting may cost you upwards of $10 per msg plus airline upcharges"
I'd bet that if you asked passengers if they'd be willing to pay $2 to be able to text message inflight the vast majority would say yes. So, conservatively, $100 per flight, thousands of flights per day. Airlines could make millions on that basis. GoGo (or an airline) with their outrageous (imo) prices for basic internet could offer it with their service. They'd get many more people to sign up. I still think this is a possible cash cow.
