Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump [ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/donald-trump/ ] bragged that his building was the tallest in New York City hours after the World Trade Center towers fell on Sept. 11, 2001.
Audio of the real estate mogul’s comments was obtained and published by Politico reporter Michael Kruse [ http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/09/trump-hillary-clinton-september-11-911-attacks-nyc-214236 ] on Saturday. In the middle of a 10-minute conversation with local television station WWOR, Trump took the opportunity to plug his 71-story skyscraper located in the financial district, just blocks away from the doomed towers.

A New York woman allegedly attacked two Muslim women and their young children in an incident Thursday that prosecutors are characterizing as a hate crime.
Emirjeta Xhelili, 32, approached the women [ http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/bigot-ripping-muslim-women-hijabs-hateful-attack-article-1.2785475 ] in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bath Beach, Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon, prosecutors allege, according to the New York Daily News. The women were wearing hijabs and pushing two babies — an 11-month-old and a 15-month-old — in strollers. Ted Cruz may have won the Values Voter Summit straw poll three years running, but attendees at this weekend’s social conservative gathering in Washington, D.C., weren’t happy with the Texas senator’s refusal to back Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Debra Wagers, who made the trek to the summit with her husband, Ron, from Commerce, Michigan, said she supported Mr. Cruz in the GOP primary race.
“But I felt like once Donald Trump won the nomination, then Ted should have stepped up to the plate and kept the party together, and as a united group [of] Republicans to beat Hillary,” said Mrs. Wagers, 60. “You don’t want to get mad and act like a little brat and take your marbles home.
“We did actually vote for Ted Cruz in the primary, but we are backing Donald Trump now,” she said.
Mr. Trump received a standing ovation before his speech at the summit on Friday; Mr. Cruz did not appear at all.

An Alabama pastor delivered a message on Friday that was not found in any Bible passage. He told the crowd at a high school football game to rise for the national anthem... or get shot.
“If you don’t want to stand for the National Anthem, you can line up over there by the fence and let our military personnel take a few shots AT you since they’re taking shots FOR you,” Pastor Allen Joyner said before a game in McKenzie, Alabama, according to a now-deleted Facebook post that was preserved in a number of places online.
The post noted there was “crazy cheering” after the incendiary comments.

TAMPA — A Tampa man faces a manslaughter charge after shooting his cousin in an attempt to see whether a bullet-resistant vest still worked, according to police.
At 10 p.m. Saturday, Joaquin Mendez, 23, tried on the bullet-resistant vest, Tampa police said. He wondered aloud whether it was functional.
"Let's see," replied his cousin Alexandro Garibaldi, who pulled out a gun and shot at the vest, according to police.
Officers responded to 2407 E Gordon St. minutes after the shooting. They said they found Mendez outside, wounded in the chest. Inside, they found blood and the vest, which had a bullet hole.
Garibaldi, 24, told officers he heard a gunshot, then discovered his wounded cousin outside. But police said they heard a different story from a witness.
The witness reported that Mendez sat in a chair and put the vest on, wondering whether it worked, and that Garibaldi took out a gun, said, "Let's see," and shot.
Mendez was taken to a hospital, where he died.
In addition to the manslaughter with a weapon charge, Garibaldi faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.
No one answered the door at the home Sunday afternoon, where yellow police tape lay in the front yard. Several neighbors said the residents at the address had moved into the neighborhood within the last couple months.

A New York woman allegedly attacked two Muslim women and their young children in an incident Thursday that prosecutors are characterizing as a hate crime.

Ted Cruz may have won the Values Voter Summit straw poll three years running, but attendees at this weekend’s social conservative gathering in Washington, D.C., weren’t happy with the Texas senator’s refusal to back Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Debra Wagers, who made the trek to the summit with her husband, Ron, from Commerce, Michigan, said she supported Mr. Cruz in the GOP primary race.
“But I felt like once Donald Trump won the nomination, then Ted should have stepped up to the plate and kept the party together, and as a united group [of] Republicans to beat Hillary,” said Mrs. Wagers, 60. “You don’t want to get mad and act like a little brat and take your marbles home.
“We did actually vote for Ted Cruz in the primary, but we are backing Donald Trump now,” she said.
Mr. Trump received a standing ovation before his speech at the summit on Friday; Mr. Cruz did not appear at all.

An Alabama pastor delivered a message on Friday that was not found in any Bible passage. He told the crowd at a high school football game to rise for the national anthem... or get shot.
“If you don’t want to stand for the National Anthem, you can line up over there by the fence and let our military personnel take a few shots AT you since they’re taking shots FOR you,” Pastor Allen Joyner said before a game in McKenzie, Alabama, according to a now-deleted Facebook post that was preserved in a number of places online.
The post noted there was “crazy cheering” after the incendiary comments.

TAMPA — A Tampa man faces a manslaughter charge after shooting his cousin in an attempt to see whether a bullet-resistant vest still worked, according to police.
At 10 p.m. Saturday, Joaquin Mendez, 23, tried on the bullet-resistant vest, Tampa police said. He wondered aloud whether it was functional.
"Let's see," replied his cousin Alexandro Garibaldi, who pulled out a gun and shot at the vest, according to police.
Officers responded to 2407 E Gordon St. minutes after the shooting. They said they found Mendez outside, wounded in the chest. Inside, they found blood and the vest, which had a bullet hole.
Garibaldi, 24, told officers he heard a gunshot, then discovered his wounded cousin outside. But police said they heard a different story from a witness.
The witness reported that Mendez sat in a chair and put the vest on, wondering whether it worked, and that Garibaldi took out a gun, said, "Let's see," and shot.
Mendez was taken to a hospital, where he died.
In addition to the manslaughter with a weapon charge, Garibaldi faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.
No one answered the door at the home Sunday afternoon, where yellow police tape lay in the front yard. Several neighbors said the residents at the address had moved into the neighborhood within the last couple months.
