Proto,

I'm still learning so my view is progressing but not complete. The short term buzz over at POET is IMO because of the possibility of completing a successful fab run for their VSCEL lasers. Their detectors were reported to have outrageously good activity. Beyond that, just like LWLG, the truth behind the halt could be, and has been speculated to be, anything between that successful VSCEL run and a major buyout from Apple at $100 per share. LOL. I am hopeful that they have some revenue involved but how would we know. The secrecy is the same as here.

It sounds interesting, but until we see the deal, nothings in the bag. The best attribute of their approach is the monolithic integration of the laser, modulator and detector on the same GaAs chip. The downside might be an upper limit of 50 Gb/s because it is GaAs.

For LWLG, they need a way to get the light source on the silicon chip. Many possible solutions seem to be progressing like quantum dots, nanopillars, and quantum cascade lasers. But, again, until they have it solved, nothings in the bag.

I hope this helps and please remember it's all IMO. I am a material scientist, not an electro optical engineer.

Rick
