LONGMONT, Colorado, February 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTCQB: LWLG), a technology company focused on the development of Next Generation Photonic Devices and Non-Linear Optical Polymer Materials Systems for applications in high speed fiber-optic data communications and optical computing, announced today that Michael Lebby, PhD will present the scientific and economic case for the Company’s polymer photonic system as a future replacement platform for installed legacy photonic devices and emerging silicon photonic systems.

Polymer photonics is a newly coined term to describe the melding of highly miniaturized photonic circuitry with the power and scalability of organic polymer materials.

The photonics industry has applied the term silicon photonics to the integration of silicon-based optical devices that can be placed on a separate chip or on a single chip that can fully integrate with conventional semiconductor manufacturing techniques. However, the active materials that accomplish the conversion of electrical information into pulses of light remain the same inorganic crystalline materials like Indium Phosphide (InP) and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) used in legacy devices.

The concept of integrated photonics has been the subject of recent discussion in the photonics industry and the central focus of the forthcoming PIC Conference. The term relates to the powerful and ongoing trend to miniaturize and integrate multiple photonics functions on a single chip. Integrated Photonics is now evolving to also include photonic integrated circuits (PICs), which provide even greater functionality. Both silicon photonics as well as polymer photonics are platforms that can provide highly competitive PIC functionality, however, polymer photonics promises vastly more compelling economics.

Tom Zelibor, Chairman and CEO of Lightwave Logic commented, “We are excited to garner the attention of the photonics industry and to have a luminary such as Dr. Lebby present the case for our technological solution that is both scalable in higher speed and performance, as well lower in cost structure. Both metrics are becoming extremely important to satisfy the communication needs in datacenter applications. Furthermore, Lightwave Logic over the past six months has been making amazing strides and I believe the Company is positioned well to display the virtues of polymer photonics platforms later this year.

“I will also be attending the conference with Dr. Lebby and meeting with numerous existing European investors in Lightwave’s technology.”

Dr. Michael Lebby also an Independent Director of Lightwave Logic stated, “The current technological solutions are struggling to meet the goals of datacenter customers, which opens the door for innovative new platforms like polymer photonics. Polymer photonics is a high-performance solution that can scale quickly to the cost structures needed by datacenter customers. Polymer photonics takes advantage of the ease of using polymers that can be applied quickly and efficiently and in a low cost manner to silicon platforms. The Company has made tremendous progress over the last year and I look forward to raise awareness by putting Lightwave’s organic polymer solutions on the industry radar for commercial evaluation.”
