Tullow has to answer to its shareholders, something we sometimes overlook here in the USA, being as it's not domiciled in the USA. Too, I suspect most of us tend to want service NOW, damn it!
Unfortunately that's not the way it works in a world complicated by fears resulting from weakening economic dynamics, terrorist attacks coming upon the scene like flash fires and no match in sight. And then there are always going to be transitioning political administrations with their redo's of priorly existing contracts, alliances and pledges---and virtually anything available to coming under fresh scrutiny and possible revision.
And so it is that I, too, have been wondering just how secure the PSC is, given that it may be a ripe moment for reevaluation on the part of political leaders in Guinea. When your nation has been ravaged by a most terrible disease, it is to be expected that some formerly held absolutes may come under fire and a few may face change.
One of the most difficult aspects of understanding geopolitical differences stems from the very nature of absolutes we take for granted. Here in the U.S. we are accustomed to feeling relatively safe. It is much the same in France. Yet we experienced the savagery of 9-11 and now Paris, too, is under fire. The tranquility to which we've become accustomed is not merely threatened, no---it has bee wrenched from our hands, twisted as a piece of taffy and thrown to the vultures without a modicum of sanity, or empathy for one's fellow man.
Gaining a grasp of the larger picture will require that we somehow put aside all consideration of absolutes such as domestic tranquility, common good for all people regardless of differences, governance across one's country including borders and, of course, inequalities as measurable by financially enriching circumstances enjoyed by some but not all. And you'll note I'm omitting any reference to theological matters as I don't subscribe to the tenets of organized religion, myself. I do try to hold respect for others of a different nature except when I see religion used for political identity and patronage-based manipulation. And it should go without mentioning that all nations have their own individualized histories laden with building blocks defining their ethics and globalizing posturing.
So, there you have some of my thoughts for a Saturday morning.
While I've been adding substantially to my HDYN positions, I fully recognize the inherent dangers of doing so. This is an important consideration for me as I was so involved with Bob Bearnth and Neil Moore. They're gone, I'm not. Why that should matter now is something I cannot say but it may be that I regard this drilling situation in Guinea as necessary and long overdue. It may translate into closure for Bob and Neil, may they rest in peace.
