IDCC had best appeal the decision, whether this patent expires or not. They simply cannot afford to suffer the defeat. Throwing in the towel will simply encourage all others to follow a similar "avoid payment at all costs" mentality. If they let the behemoths walk away, this will be a very bad indicator for the future.
