Block 11A drilling Environmental and Social Impact Assessment...

Some items of interest...

Exact drilling locations for Tarach-1 and, possibly, Egole-1 are not provided, but this map shows the general area where drilling will occur. It also indicates that CEPSA/ERHC chose to relinquish the southeastern portion of the block. (you may need to scroll down after the map for more, iHub is leaving a lot of space for some reason)

To access the well locations, CEPSA plans on improving existing roads and creating a new 30 to 40 km. road to bypass villages and avoid sensitive habitats, trees and farms.

The main drilling objective is to log and to hopefully test Auwerwer Sandstone formation. The secondary objective is the logging and testing of Lokhone Sandstone formation.

Each well is expected to take 40 days to drill to a depth of approximately 3,000 to 3,500 m measured depth. In the event of a discovery, a further 10 to 20 days will be taken to prepare for and test the well.

The total cost of the project cannot be estimated at this stage since CEPSA KENYA Ltd is currently carrying out the tendering process for the main contracts and their cost are unknown yet. However, it is estimated that the project cost will be between USD 20,000,000 and USD 30,000,000.

Perhaps PN is being conservative with his March 2016 spud date because the EIA says that CEPSA KENYA Ltd plans to start operations by the fourth quarter of 2015, which may imply start drilling by the end of 2015 or beginning 2016.

There is much more, including general well design information. All in all, an impressive document, IMO.

There is no direct link to the report available. Perhaps ERHC will make it available via their website.
