That's common sense IMO. It's like you go shopping, you go around a few shops & ask them what is special about their products vs brand X. You want to find out what others out there have to offer & make the best of your dollar.

So why did they ask Spencer questions on how to deal with urban environments is they knew it all?

I have no doubt NASA has the tech for Nissan, but what Nissan is looking for might be something more suited to fit into their existing tech, for better streamlining & execution. It's like going to buy diapers, you want to buy one that fits the baby at the current month, not too big not too small & with a bit of room for growth. :D
