The oncologist love Avastin and get to keep it on care 60% of the time "it does nothing but inflammation and severe internal bleeding". They have final say. They let the clinical pharmacist takeover when hospice comes in.

Bavituximab is so needed today for any possible cure! Opdivo appears to be another inflation nightmare imo.

I wonder if this is why we see the trend and paradigm shift towards Immuno-Oncology and the fact that inflammation leads to higher levels of MDSC's, which naturally leads to higher death rates. Only lower levels of MDSC's have been proven to be associated with an optimal immune response. I must sound like a broken record at times, but Dmitry Gabrilovich (Peregrine KOL) has suspected/known/proven this many times up to this time and is the reason why he is with Peregrine Pharmaceuticals.

The biology of myeloid-derived suppressor cells: The blessing and the curse of morphological and functional heterogeneity

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) have become the focus of intense study in recent years. MDSC accumulate in large numbers during many pathologic conditions, including cancer, infectious diseases, trauma, sepsis, etc. They are characterized by their myeloid origin, immature state, and most importantly by their potent ability to suppress different aspects of immune responses, especially T-cell proliferation and cytokine production. Early studies implicated up-regulation of arginase, nitric oxide (NO), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) as the major factors responsible for the immune suppressive activity of MDSC.

Oh.... I forget to clearly point out that inflammation is tied to higher levels of MDSC's as well...

Myeloid-derived-suppressor cells as regulators of the immune system

Dmitry I. Gabrilovich and Srinivas Nagaraj

Abstract:

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a heterogeneous population of cells that expands during cancer, inflammation and infection, and that has a remarkable ability to suppress T-cell responses. These cells constitute a unique component of the immune system that regulates immune responses in healthy individuals and in the context of various diseases. In this Review, we discuss the origin, mechanisms of expansion and suppressive functions of MDSCs, as well as the potential to target these cells for therapeutic benefit.
