1940's Manfred Mann guitarist-saxophonist Mike Vickers is born in Southampton, England. Originally on flute or saxophone, Vickers volunteers to take up the guitar because the group needs one. 1940
1950's It’s Les Pattinson’s (Echo & The Bunnymen) birthday. He starts his life in Ormskirk, West Lancashire. 1958
1960's The Beatles and Del Shannon perform on Swinging Sound ’63 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The show is broadcast live on the BBC. 1963

A poll conducted by the British Forces Broadcasting Service finds that Queen's ’75 hit "Bohemian Rhapsody," is the favorite song of the British Army. "It's fantastic . . . it makes me feel very, very proud,” says Queen drummer Roger Taylor in a statement. “I'd like to wish all the forces the very best - and especially to those who voted for “Bohemian Rhapsody” - from the very bottom of our hearts." ASCAP, the performing rights organization, honors Peter Frampton and Trent Reznor at their annual Pop Awards in L.A. After watching a career retrospective, Reznor keeps his comments brief. "Watching that, it's pretty clear that bad haircuts have played an important role in my work," quips Reznor. Frampton tells Rolling Stone, "I'm not what I would call the most prolific songwriter. I've written a lot of songs, but over a long period of time. So, yes, it's a great honor." 2012
