I think I've written about this before. I knew a woman that was on the staff of a Tulane University hospital in the Congo in 1964.

She and a small group of Westerners were guided by Natives for a few weeks in dodging the rebels. They were rescued by Belgian paratroopers. She had horrible stories to tell about unbelievable brutality.
