regular silk costs $100 bucks per kilo?...i thought it was far less than that...closer to 30 bucks or less?...

You are thinking per pound. It also depends on the quality of the silk. The higher quality "Reeled" silk goes for much more than the lower quality "Spun" silk and even lower quality "Noil" silk (click here for a comparison). A quick google search found a site (Located here) that was selling various higher quality silks for over $100 a kilogram. I am sure you could find it cheaper wholesale if you searched, but this site shows that it does sell some places at the price stated.

In the previous LiveScience article (Located Here), it was stated: "Once production is up and running, Thompson estimates it will cost less than $68 per pound ($150 per kilogram) produced to make the silk."

This new estimate is even less than the previous one, so either Kim has found a way to lower costs to produce or is being more specific with the cost as time goes on. Either way, the cheaper it is to produce, the more profit will be made for selling it at a set price.
