IBM must have a lot of confidence in their new technologies to disrupt their on-going business in such a major way. Where is IBM headed?

IMO, the next generation of semiconductors will come from IBM's current research in new materials. Today, IBM researchers are a significant part of this very important optics meeting in Arizona:
