at the time howland made the statement, i believe kim and howland were both working under the assumption that the machinery was not an issue...thats why he said this ...

"You have to acknowledge that you don't know how the fiber is going to behave," Howland said. "You have to let it teach you how to work with it, and that takes time."...

he spoke of the fiber...not machinery...

it wasnt until later that it was realized the machinery had to be modified which is why on 6-25-14 kim stated that had the machinery not worked, it would have set the project back by "several years"...
