RE: Top 10 things I'm thinking about right now
2. What are the results of the strength tests on the knitted MonsterSilk gloves?
BOOYAHH! responded to my #2 thing I'm thinking about as follows: "None, point of gloves was not to make material to test. Merely to prove existing methods could be used....thus no tooling or retooling."
My response to BOOYAH!: Warwick Mills tests fibers. I agree that trying to use existing production equipment with MonsterSilk was the main point. However, the fact is that the gloves are or will soon be going through strength testing. And I quote, "Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, based in Lansing, Michigan, genetically engineered silkworms to produce spider silk, and has used the material to create gloves that will soon undergo strength testing [emphasis added]." Quoted from "Bulletproof Spider Silk" by Elizabeth Howell, June 25, 2014 at http://www.livescience.com/46519-spider-silk-bulletproof-clothing.html (last checked September 1, 2014). I expect we will hear of results of this testing at some point. Perhaps not detailed results, but a general overview of the performance of MonsterSilk.
If you look on the Warwick Mills website, you will notice that they publish the qualities and characteristics of each fiber they work with. Assuming they someday use "MonsterSilk" and list it on their website, they will list the qualities and characteristics of MonsterSilk. Hence the need to test and play with it to find out what it can and cannot do. Warwick Mills will find a use for MonsterSilk. I am confident of that. I find it interesting to read that they are working with different types of MonsterSilk (whatever that means) and making jersey knits.
