Just my opinion but since many of the rare diseases are genetic I think there is a sense of social/moral play involved that we (society) "owe" these people. That coupled with the total annual cost to the system being a fraction of what a drug like solvadi is/will be will slow the call for push back here (though I think it will likely come at some point). I think congressmen get a bigger bang for their buck (look better) going after Gilead for solvadi then an ERT that a young child will be taking for the rest of their life.
