Garner's wife, Gena Rowlands, was in her last days, suffering with Alzheimer's, in a nursing home. Garner and his children were visiting her, out on the lawn. Garner tried to engage her but she was lost somewhere - out there.
A nurse came to take her back inside. His children were saying he was wasting time, he should move on. Their mother didn't even know who he was.
He looked at them in mild surprise.
"You don't understand. That's my darling in there"
I don't think he meant- in that building. He meant-in that body.
